[New Update – Payout][Expired] Topcashback: 73.4% Back on HBO Max, Stack with $25 From AmEx Offer for Free Annual Membership

Update 10/25/21: Further update has been provided, Topcashback is honoring this out of their own pocket now.

Hi everyone,

We’re pleased that some of you have already had updates to your claim, we’re not in a position to update all the claims submitted and wanted to also post a progress update here about what we’ve done to resolve and also to share some info on what happened.

It’s no surprise a lot of you made this purchase, the deal was incredibly lucrative and while TopCashback prides itself on bringing you the very best rates, we have to own up here the 73.5% rate on any online purchase wasn’t what was intended.

The deal was intended to be 73.4% cashback on the cost of a first month subscription costs,  equating to around $11 cashback for our members rather than the large sums of cashback that were expected. This lack of clarity wasn’t something picked up by the team here before or during the rate being live. As soon as it was, the rate was updated down to $11.

As some of you have mentioned in the comments here, this rate was not just something isolated to TopCashback. However, we hope how we’ve handled this situation so far including this update now reflects just what we stand for which is not just fantastic cashback rates.

At TopCashback, we firmly believe in Fair Play, those words continue to be the foundations that drive every decision we make. We understand when you took out this deal, you entrusted us and the rate displayed. It is under that same premise that just owning up to an error is not enough, we need to demonstrate that fair play is far more to us than a buzz word.

It is in that same mindset that we have decided to honor all purchases that HBO have confirmed were taken out. An extremely substantial portion of the rate has come to us here at TopCashback to reflect that demonstration of fair play. While the cost is extremely considerable, we believe it is what is right and what is fair in this situation.

Each of you will receive an update on your claim, if you haven’t already. The transactions we manually added will also be updated accordingly with nearly all of these progressing to payable, the only exception being if HBO have not been able to match up the email you provided on your claim to their system.

Thank you so much for bearing with us with this situation, we remain extremely grateful for the patience, loyalty and trust that has been instilled in us. I hope you find this update informative and most importantly that you enjoy treating yourselves with those funds and any funds you earn with us here at TopCashback

Update 9/30/21: The following update has been provided:

Thank you to all who have been reaching out to us, as a member myself I appreciate that getting cashback situations like this resolved as soon as possible is something we should always put first and be assured many members of the team here are working with the right parties on this right now to bring closure to this situation.

We are working with the retailer directly to confirm that all the purchases made through our site met the terms of the offer so we can bring this claim and many others to a close as soon as possible. This offer was incredibly popular so without this confirmation and currently without us being in the knowledge of who kept the purchase and who didn’t, it would be just too risky for us to fast track payment for everyone affected. Our team continue to work with HBO weekly and while it wouldn’t be right to give you a firm timeline without the certainty this will be met, I can personally assure you we are fully understanding of the importance to bring this matter fully to a close

Update 7/14/21: The 73% credits are finally posting as pending to reader’s Topcashback accounts now.

Update: TCB has provided this official statement:

Dear members, we are aware of the issue and currently working on a resolution with the advertiser. Please stand by for further updates.

The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • Topcashback is offering 73.4% cashback on your first HBO Max purchase.

Our Verdict

Would stack beautifully with the $25 off $99.99 HBO Max offer from AmEx on annual memberships. Even the $149.99 price for ad-free is very cheap after the 73% discount and $25 back.

Reader EH confirmed with Topcashback via support that this 73.4% cashback rate would work on HBO Max annual membership as well, so long as it’s your first purchase. Could be worth trying to get your own confirmation before purchasing, though I don’t know how long the rate will last.

Hat tip again to reader EH

A kind reminder that the subscription will renew in a month. Remember to cancel it if you haven’t done so.

I’ve been using Topcashback for many years and I’ve always appreciated the ease of fixing any problems with nontracking orders. With that said, I am very thankful that topcashback decided to honor this cashback even though they didn’t have to. It really does say a lot about a business that is willing to accept mistakes and take care of their customers. Thank you TCB!

Topcashback initially rejected my claim due to my entering the incorrect email in the claim form. They worked with me and now honored my claim (a few days after everyone else got their cashback who didn’t typo). I really appreciate how they worked through this and honored the claims out of their own pocket. I’d encourage anyone who got rejected to work with them because I had 0 expectation and then ended up getting my payout. I will use Topcashback whenever possible from now on.

In my case, I wrote that I had signed up for HBO max under *maiden-name*[email protected]. This was rejected because HBO Max said that it wasn’t an existing account I guess. I double checked and the account was actually under *married name*[email protected]. I communicated this to TopCashback, they asked for my HBOMax signup email (had the date, amount paid, and email address) which I printed to pdf and forwarded to them. 24 hours later my cashback was payable.

Hi David,

Thank you so much for your feedback. I’m so glad you were able to receive your cashback. Again, we greatly appreciated your patience as we know this took quite a bit of time, but we just wanted to make sure we went through each case very carefully to be able to give everyone what they deserved, and that took some real digging.

Best Wishes,
Dominique

My cash back is available for withdrawal. All things considered I think TCB is pretty darn stand-up for how they handled this. I love the honesty in their statement, too. Makes me feel like they’re not trying to profit off of this community, but with it.

I know I will be buying through them every chance I get from now on.

Hi Joe,

We really appreciate this, as we understand it was quite a big of a long wait. We just wanted to make sure we went through every detail with a fine tooth comb to ensure we were doing what was fair for each member, as that is what our company stands by: fair play.

Best Wishes,
Dominique

I have never once gotten a cashback offer track correctly on TCB without having to follow up at least 3-4x. And even then, they ask you to wait another 120 days for the payout to be paid (in hopes that you forget about it later on). AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! Stick with Rakuten and Dosh, these sites have never had issues with tracking cb.

Do you have any ad blockers on? Never had an issue with TCB.

for folks who received the “denied” email….continue communicating with TCB customer service (on their website) and provide what they request and they are looking at the claim again and changing the outcome…I received a denial email yesterday because of the email “mismatch”…I followed up with customer service and they requested the order confirmation email from HBO and I forwarded it to them….and a few hours later my CB was changed to payable (green)…looks like their initial denial was based on whatever HBO told them…and not sure why HBO came to that conclusion in the first place….so instead of filing a charge back with Amex (or any other action) maybe worthwhile to make another attempt with TCB customer service…good luck..

Just noticed I got the denial email. I checked my emails with HBO and Topcashback and they are the same email addresses. Sounds like something is amiss and they don’t want to payout legitimate claims because the financial burden is too high. It leaves a terrible taste in my mouth. I responded to the message. Let’s see if it gets anywhere. Probably not. But I will fight for what they promised as a consumer
