[Targeted] AmEx Offer: HBO Max, Spend $99.99 & Receive $25 Statement Credit

Update 3/11/24: Deal is back and valid until 9/30/2024.

Update 7/18/23: Deal is back and valid until October 17, 2023

The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer

  • Get a one-time $25 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $99.99 or more online at hbomax.com by 12/14/2021

The Fine Print

  •  Offer valid online at hbomax.com for annual subscription purchases.
  • Purchases may not qualify if not billed directly by the merchant.
  • For example, if you purchased your subscription through a third party device/digital platform, you may get billed by the party you signed up with, and not directly by the merchant.

Our Verdict

HBO Max with ads is $99.99 annually, without ads is $149.99. Kind of ridiculous pricing with ads but that is the world we live in I guess. This is a nice $25 saving. Best to try and stack this with Swagbucks if possible.

There’s a 40% off promo going on right now (ends 4/9/2024) on max.com for yearly subs:

w/ Ads: $69.99/year
Ad-free: $104.99/year
Ultimate Ad-free: $139.99/year

Should be able to stack Rakuten with $10-20 cashback depending on what plan you get.

Can also earn 15% back in “Sam’s club cash”. You have to link your card in the sams club app.

Any other rebate portal stacking?

I see Rakuten is offering $10 on Annual add plan. Rakuten + Amex makes it more than $30 back but not worth as previous topcashback stacking

Wonder if this can stack with the Chase MyBonus. Subscribe to the $99/yr option on Chase, then upgrade for another $100/yr on Amex to get both rebates?

I hate that they snuck in a rather substantial price hike vs. last year. Anyone who subscribed to a legacy annual advert-free plan around this time last year for $105 should take note that it will renew at $150 and only include 2 screens, 30 downloads and HD. If you want to retain 4K and Atmos and 4 screens you’ll need to upgrade to ultimate which is currently $200 annual. Does any family or group of 4 actually download 100 movies?

Please consider buying the no-ad one — the number of repetitive ads are insulting on the ad-supported plan for which I already paid $100.
