U.S. Bank Altitude Connect Up To 60,000 Bonus Points For Olympic Winter Games

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • U.S. Bank Altitude Connect is offering a bonus of up to 60,000 points for the Olympic Winter Games. Bonus is broken down as follows:
    • 50,000 bonus points when you spend $2,000 within 120 days of account opening
    • Bonus points depending on how many medals team USA wins:
      • 0-35 medals: 5,000 bonus points
      • 36+ medals: 10,000 bonus points

Card Details

  • Card has $95 annual fee, fee is waived the first year
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Card earns the following rates:
    • 4x on Travel and at Gas Stations
    • 2x on Dining, Takeout, Groceries, and Streaming Services
    • 1x everywhere else
  • $30 free month of streaming for annual streaming services. Annual streaming credit works as follows: after 11 months of consecutive streaming service charges, the 12th month will get the $30 credit.
    • You can combine different services, e.g. if you were subscribed to Netflix for 8 months and then to Hulu for 3 months, the following month of streaming will be credited back.
    • Amazon Music, Apple Music, AT&T TV Now, Disney+, Google Music, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, SiriusXM, Slacker Radio, Sling TV, Spotify, Tidal, Vudu, YouTube Music and YouTube TV are all mentioned clearly to work.
  • Cell phone protection similar to the US Bank Platinum card; $600 coverage with $25 deductible.
  • Precheck or global entry credit.

Our Verdict

Standard bonus is 50,000 points, so this is an extra 5,000 points guaranteed. Last winter Olympics team USA won 23 medals and the one before that it was 28 medals so the 35 target seems like a lot. The deal is valid until February 20, 2022 and that’s when the Olympics ends so should be possible to see what the tally is looking like. We will add this to our list of the best credit card bonuses.

Is US Bank Altitude Connect Card Signup Bonus churnable? or Are US bank credit cards signup bonuses are churnable in general?

They used to be but most of their cards have anti-churning language now. I have not personally tested how strictly this is enforced.

P2 and I got these in June and July and had no problems getting approved. Both 780+ >100k. 6/24 for me when applying with 2 of those being business. Easy $500 each. I also did the Biz Leverage a few months prior for 750. One slight annoyance is this 2K/$500 offer showed up in my Biz Leverage Account but application wouldn’t work when applying online thru that account, so did mine thru phone. Rep said the two systems don’t always synch together. USB unfortunately doesn’t offer any referral bonuses, but still easy cash!

DP: applied both P1 and P2 on 2/19 (one day before offer expiration), we both hold other US Bank cards and have/had deposit accounts. P2 approved immediately, P1 approved after recon call several days later. Olympics bonus offer fine print clearly states apply (not approve) by 2/20 to qualify.

Finished spending for both cards late in 120 day bonus period, but one purchase (major utility company!) took seven days to clear and posted at 124 days (4 statements + 4 days) for P2. Both SUB and Olympics bonus posted on 5th statement date. P1 spending completed before 120 days, but only SUB posted on 4th statement. Olympics bonus posted on 5th statement date.

Based on past experience with US Bank (qualifying checking bonus denied, closed card AF refund requests ignored, targeted balance transfer offers denied) I was really expecting to have to battle them for these bonuses but pleasantly surprised it all posted eventually without intervention.

AF posted on my account, and I called to request a PC. The process was pretty seamless. Requested a change to Cash+. Altitude Go was another PC option. I was told that AF would be refunded within 10 days, and it appeared in that time frame.

A statement credit also posted for for the value of points that I had not redeemed. I thought I might just be forfeiting my few remaining points, so that was a nice touch.

Applied MAR2022, received 50K points by MAY2022 and cashed out with $500 credit toward balance. This is better deal than Altitude Reserve, IMHO, wonder why it’s not on the frontpage.

I didn’t see any Olympic bonus though. Also experienced the long customer service wait time and just gave up.

Seems like the Olympics bonus posts the following month. My statement where I finished the required purchases just closed and the 50,000 points posted.

What’s the best way to use these points?

Some gift cards are 10% off. So, if I had an immediate use for those particular retailers, that’s something I’d consider. Otherwise cash is king.

I hit the MSR in the second billing period. Second statement closed on 3/18/22 with 50,000 bonus points posted. Third statement closed on 4/19/22 with 5,000 (Olympic) bonus points posted.
P2 has not received Olympic bonus yet but did receive MSR bonus.

Just called to downgrade card to Altitude Go. Was told that US Bank will be mailing me an envelope with instructions to return the Connect card. Why on earth would the bank want my old card? Will update in a week or two if I actually get the return instructions along with the Altitude Go card.

Card arrived with envelope for return, guess it’s so you don’t damage your shredder since it’s metal.

No prior history with US Bank. Opened brokerage in mid Jan, checking account soon after. Went through application link in this post. Instant approved for 12.5k FICO ~780, 50k income, 6/24 (3 of those were biz)
