U.S. Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa 26,667 Points After $2,000/$500 In Spend

The Offer

Direct link

  • U.S. Bank is offering 26,667 FlexPoints  after $2,000 in spend on the U.S. Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa. 26,667 FlexPerks is $400 in travel (airfare, hotel stays & car rentals)

Card Details

  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 2x FlexPoints on the category you spend the most on (at gas stations, grocery stores or airlines) and at most cell phone service providers during each billing cycle.
    • 1x FlexPoints on all purchase purchases
  • $49 annual fee waived first year

Our Verdict

Bigger than the 25,000 bonus offered earlier this year but not as big as the Olympics bonuses. You can often get the same offer but with only $500 spend required when you look for pre-approved offers. Keep in mind that FlexPoints are now worth a maximum of 1.5¢ per point as well. As always read these things everybody should know about U.S. Bank credit cards before applying. This card is also eligible for real time rewards. U.S. Bank can be tricky for approvals so some people will prefer to get the Altitude Reserve instead.

What are the FlexPoints worth for straight cashback or statement credit?

I did the Olympics one and I really found the FlexPerks to be a bit of a PITA to use. For airline tickets, for example, you can only use them in increments of the ticket price. So rather than getting $550 of cost reduction on the trip I booked I only got $300 and not I have an extra $250 to spend somewhere.

I guessing you booked through the portal, or before 2018?

I know when I booked through the airline this year, all charges went to the credit card and I instantly got a text message to convert points to cover the entire charge. Showed up as a statement credit – completely covering my charges. Anything that codes as travel will do this (if you sign up) at the 1.5c/point rate.

I think your talking about the confusing old program, at 2c/point.

FYI – earlier this month, I got a mailer offering 35000 Flexpoints for $2000 spend. Annual fee is waived the first year. May be YMMV but also may be worth calling in to see if it’s possible to get matched to this offer.
