United Airline Basic Economy Fares Are Now Upgradeable (Switch to Economy)

United Airlines has made a change to basic economy fares, making them upgradeable after purchase. Passengers can pay a norefundable upgrade fee ‘switch to economy’ to make changes to their flights. Once you’ve paid this fee you can make changes to your ticket without any further fees (you pay the fare difference if the new flight is more expensive and receive travel credit if it’s cheaper). You can also cancel your ticket and receive a travel credit.

Wasn’t real thrilled to get an email today, stating that we had been moved from Premium Economy to Economy on our flight from Dublin Ireland to Newark. We paid for the seats and were told that we’ll get a refund for it. Which is fine. However , we wanted the little bit of extra leg room.

Can I pay the upgrade with United Travelbank cash? or pay for prepaid luggage with United Travelbank Cash?

United 1k 1MM here, but not flying them this summer. Incredibly costly vs. AA and DL. And their basic fares are usually exactly the same as the others’ nonrestricted fares

Dean what cheap routes have you found for Delta? I’m really curious.. I like Delta.. but so far all routes I searched are more expensive with Delta.

I was looking at LAX-TPA for about $200 nonstop on DL. But now that I look closer at the other 10 prospective destinations, AA seems to be cheapest (or maybe had better times and routes). A Delta elite pal just booked a super cheap flight to Lisbon ex PHL, via DTW and CDG.

AA is the most expensive for me out of Charlotte. Sucks to be in a monopolistic airport

So moving from Basic Economy to Economy now counts as an upgrade? Am I reading this right?

I just booked a basic economy flight to San Francisco with Chase UR points.
How would I go on about upgrading?

So this could trigger the Amex airline credit?
