Up to $150 Free Amazon Gift Cards with Softcard

Right after posting about the 4,000 United miles Softcard offer, I came across another great Softcard offer.

Receive up to $150 free Amazon gift cards by using Softcard. This comes on the heels of last month’s  Amazon Softcard promotion.

The Offer

Direct Link

Here’s how to get free Amazon gift cards: Tap and pay with Softcard using the same credit card 5 times by December 31, and you’ll receive a $10 Amazon gift card. You can do this 3 times for each single credit card.

But you’re not limited to getting this on just for one credit card: you can get this offer using up to 5 different credit cards which were added to Softcard. (Note: not all credit cards can be added to Softcard, see a list here.)

To max out on this offer, use one credit card 15 times. This will earn you $30 Amazon  gift card. Then use a second credit card 15 times, and you’ll earn another $30 gift card. And continue onto a 3rd, 4th, and 5th credit card. Use each 15 times, and you’ll receive $150 in Amazon gift cards!

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid from Nov. 1 – Dec. 31, 2014.
  • Up to 3 $10 gift cards per credit card.
  • Offer is limited to 5 credit cards.
  • Not valid with Serve. (They probably did this so that it won’t stack with the $1 off $1 offer for Serve/Softcard)
  • Card must remain in your Softcard account during the offer period. (I’m not positive what this means, but it sounds like you need to leave the credit card in your Softcard account until January 1, 2015.)
  • Up to 30 days to receive the gift cards.
  • Transactions made with plastic card are not eligible.

Our Verdict

$150 in Amazon gift cards sounds awesome! But it’ll take a some effort to go and do 75 different transactions (5 cards x 15 transactions each). That being said, I’d try to go ahead with this and max it out if I had Softcard. I’d add 3 Amex credit cards and 2 Chase credit cards to my Softcard account. Then I’d try doing lots of small transactions and see if I can manage 75 transactions in the next two months.

Here are some ideas for small transctions:

  • Dollar menu at McDonald’s
  • Vending machine
  • Use self check out at register and do one item at a time
  • Split payments, ask your cashier if they can split payment over a number of transactions. This will require a patient cashier, please do not do it when there is a line.

I also noticed that it looks like BP Gas accepts Softcard. If that’s true, then this may be an easy way: if you’re in an area that has self-service gas, you can put in $1 (or less) per transaction, and do that 75 times. Or if you want to stay sane, just fill up at BP over the next two months, and split up your fill-ups into $5 transactions and you may be able to hit the 75 transaction max.

Does this work with the ISIS/Verizon app on an iPhone?

Does anyone know if there is a purchase minimum? I was thinking about just going to a McDonald’s and buying packets of BBQ sauce Or even going to a Walgreens and buying 25 cent candies in separate transactions (during a non-busy time, of course).

Vending machine locations on their map is a joke. Seems like all or most of those are in private businesses for use by employees. That’s useful for employees but useless to the public. Act of desperation on the part of Isis/Softcard to pump up NFC merchant locations. If you guys have ever found a vending machine in a public space, please let me know. Maybe it will spur some ideas for me as to where to look.

That is my ONLY complaint though. $$$$ back from the apps is beyond generous.

Great write up. Using Softcard 75 times over the next 60 days should not be too difficult if you make 1-2 purchases per day. I wonder what this means for Softcard vs Apple Pay going forward. Do you think Softcard is burning through a lot of cash to compete with Apple Pay?
