US Bank has sent out communications to existing Avianca LifeMiles co-branded cardholders that the two brands will be parting ways and the current credit cards will be discontinued. Existing cardholders will be automatically product changed into a FlexPerks visa card sometime in June.
Interestingly they are also offering these customers a bonus:
- Spend $500 or more within 90 days of the product conversion and you’ll earn 20,000 FlexPerks points
Unfortunately this bonus is only for Signature cardholders, those with a platinum card or secured card were informed of the product change but will not receive any product change bonus. The standard bonus on the FlexPerks Visa is 20,000 points after $3,500 in spend, so this product change bonus is significantly better.
If you haven’t used or heard of FlexPerks points before, I’d recommend reading our post on how much FlexPerks points are worth – it also goes into detail on what the points can be redeemed for.
The last remaining question I have is, will another US based credit card issuer pick up Avianca? I’d have to think so considering how active they have been in selling miles to consumers, they obviously know this is a profitable avenue and I’d be surprised if they weren’t interested in a bulk deal that a credit card issuer could bring. Unfortunately no word on this as of yet, if you know of anything then please let me know in the comments.

I wish to be notified when New Life Miles card for Avancia. I am so upset with US Bank for discontinuing Life Miles program. I rarely use the card now. Once I have Life Miles card, I will cancel US Bank card.
Received an e-mail from lifemiles about a week they will have information of a new lifemiles credit card issued in the US soon
When is the Alaska Airlines larger bonus coming up? You said it was going to be coming in may. Any ideas?
No idea, wait and see.
I got the conversion offer on my regular Visa (non-Signature) and was offered 10000 points instead of 20000 for a $500 spending.
Interesting, updated post.
I don’t know if this is relevant, but aside from the initial spending, I also spent around $1500 afterwards, which might help in getting the better offer.
I just got this offer as well. Best product conversion offer ever AFAIK.
I got this offer as well but I just closed the account. Mainly because the annual fee was due and I figured it was worth $75 to bother with this… now i am having second thoughts…
Definitely looking to get the LifeMiles card again.
