There are no branches in northern California.

Beware, HomeStreet is notorious for delaying the mailing of your debit card. So if you set up direct deposit it might take you a while to be able to get your money back out should you need it.

I guess I got lucky considering all the other dps. I didn’t get charged the fee since I put the $2500 early enough and they gave me the $300 bonus after 1 $1000 DD from my work. That was for the promo ending in August. This one is pretty awful.

So, lets dissect this a little bit.

To keep the account fee free, you need to keep $2500 in for 365 days. That’s an opportunity cost of $125 if you put that $2500 into Consumer’s CU at 5% for that year instead. So that reduces the effective bonus to $175.

If you opt to pay the $10 fee for a year, that’s $120, reducing your bonus to $180, slightly better.

Their website also sucks ass.

So we’re looking at a crappy, inquiry-sensitive bank with awful customer service, a bad website, and a hostile view of bonuses…a bank that shuts down people post-account opening. For $180?

No thanks.

One tip. Unless you open in branch, I don’t know how you will hit the $2500 minimum to not be charged a fee. Put at least $2510 in there for the first month and be prepared to get charged the $10. You can call and get that reversed. However, if the fee causes you to dip below 2500 again, you’ll get charged $10 the next month. It was nil impossible (not to mention not worth the time/effort) to get the second $10 fee reimbursed even though it was their fault.

yeah, i believe this 100%. they’re a shithole bank. the only reason I keep them around is cause they let me deposit money orders remotely

Is it possible to open the account, switch to basic no-fee version after bonus arrive to keep it for one year with less pain?

I’m curious about a downgrade option too!

Direct deposit $5,000+, with monthly fee, plus must stay open for a total of 365 days?

LOL. Not worth it.

This is a really touchy bank and as you said is prone to hovering over your account and needing to complete annoying calls. To close the account it has to be a snail mail letter. Customer service is hit and miss, sometimes being unbelievably rude. Overall, definitely not a smooth bonus hunting opportunity.

At any rate, I’d definitely pass on this unless you’re willing to accept a CITI/HSBC flavor with a small town feel to it.

I’m one of those that have been approved (twice! shame on me) and then shut down. I’m not going to be seduced by you anymore, HomeStreet!
