Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fee

The Everyday Checking account comes with a $10 monthly fee. Get the fee waived with one of the following:

  • 10 debit card purchases and/or payments each statement cycle from this checking account, OR
  • Direct deposits totaling $500 or more each statement cycle, OR
  • Maintain a $1,500 minimum daily balance, OR
  • Link checking account to a Wells Fargo Campus ATM or Campus Debit Card

If you have a Wells mortgage, you might be able to get a higher-level account with no fees.

Early Account Termination Fee

There is no early account termination fee.

Our Verdict

Hopefully, most readers got in on the $250 Wells bonus earlier this year which disqualifies them from this bonus, as per the terms. If not, this is an easy $200 bonus.

There are currently three Wells Fargo bonuses available:

We’ll add this to our list of Best State-Specific Bank Bonuses.

Seems unfair that they would limit us from opening more accounts for a bonus when we weren’t extended the same courtesy by their salesmen.

William Charles

Lol, in the past the 12 month rule hasn’t been enforced

Beautiful. I’ve been using them to cycle MO’s through since they don’t give a fuck. May go close it and open a new one.

Would like details on your MO process. Just opened an acct here.

I closed my account on 5/10. Worth a try or should I not bother at all?

William Charles

I guess if it works for others it would work for you, but I wouldn’t go in expecting it to work

It’s working for me in PA…? And my zip code is eligible!! 🙂

Financial Panther

So if my wife signs up for this, then Venmo’s me $1 per day for 10 days, that would qualify for the 10 debit card, right?

I’d rather do that than buy 10 fifty cent amazon gift card reloads.

There are some more targeted areas that can apply through these two links:

https://bonusoffer.wf.com/get300 for $300.

https://www.wellsfargo.com/jump/checking/prospect-offer/ for $200.

I’m in the Bay Area, but my ZIP code says not available.
Oh well, I didn’t feel like having to pay 10x with debit anyway.

I have a Wells personal account that I opened up with the $100 ATM coupon just over a year ago. I still have it open, because Wells has been great for depositing my MO. If I close this account this week, am I asking for problems with me opening a new personal account right away? Better to wait a month?

consumer checking account – does that definition include a consumer “business” checking account? Hope it doesn’t or else I am disqualified for this offer

Anyone know if there is a minimum amount for the 10x purchases?

I just signed up for 150 dollars one, now the bonus is 200 dollars, is it possible for WF to match it since it is recent?

I am in eligible zip code, applied but was not instantly approved.
Now I see the $200 nationwide bonus post.

Calvin

so, if I used to hv a wf checking acc which closed few months ago, am I eligible for getting the bonus?

Yati
Yati

YMMV, as Will said, often the 12 month rule isn’t enforced. Give it a shot and hope for the best. That’s what i’m gonna do.

Works for Dallas (75149) but does not work for Fort Worth (76131), Texas.

Ken

Works for me in Fort Worth (76108).

jhubba
jhubba

76131 might be coming up as Saginaw instead of Fort Worth proper.

Ken
Ken

Maybe. Just use a different zipcode to get into the app and then use your regular zipcode to apply. Obviously Saginaw is in FTW, and it would be easy to argue. Just enter the zip in Google and it even shows as FTW.

Hmm, wonder if I can close current account and open a new one since I got my bonus >12 months ago.

closed my $250 bonus checking in march, just got autoapproved for this account with a socal zip, will update if get bonus

Mitch

I went through a branch because my zip code was barely out of the offer area and they said I would still get the bonus.

Do I need to submit a w-9 to them though?

Edward
Edward

local branch said the international students are not qualified…

Nameless
Nameless

Same for me! They said a W-9 form is needed yet I’m not eligible for filling it, and a W-8ben cannot act as a replacement.

Patti
Patti

Has anyone confirmed that it’s possible to get another bonus if you had an account earlier this year?
Our WF bonuses posted in March and accounts were closed in April. I recall back then others reporting that they were able to close old account, open a new one, and get bonus, but does that still hold true these days? Banks keep cracking down. 🙁

V

Anyone know if there is a minimum spend on the 10 debit card transactions?

I asked wells if they can confirm the promo on my account and I got this: I reviewed your account and our records show that the Tax
Identification Number (TIN) on record for this account could not be
verified.

Due to IRS tax reporting rules, Wells Fargo cannot pay a promotional
bonus to a customer without a certified tax ID number (W-9) or a
completed W-8BEN explaining a missing tax ID number if they are a
non-resident alien. A certified W-9 or W-8BEN has not been processed and
your account does not show an updated withhold code. Even though your
account may have a Social Security Number on file, the checking account
must still be certified.”

Should I worry or not?

Hi, I signed up Nov 22,2017 and thinking I can do 10 transactions today on Dec 22, 2017, but noticed my statement just came out, does that mean they have counted the first 30 days and I am no longer eligible? Thx!

Patti
Patti

According to my notes, to get the bonus you must have:

10 debit transactions within 30 days of account opening:
+10 more during days 31-60 from account opening
+10 more from days 61-90 from account opening

It’s possible you missed it but it can’t hurt to try. It’s not difficult to do 10 uploads of Amazon gift cards to your Amazon account. Takes about 2 mins total. Put a note on your calendar to do 10 more before the close of your next statement and then 10 more after your next statement.

With other banks I’ve been a day or so late to complete requirements and still got the bonus so at this point you can keep trying or give up. If you give up for sure there is 0% chance of getting the bonus.
If you keep trying but still don’t get it, then you know why.

Rob

its back got physical mail
Transactions have to be at least $1 each now

William Charles

It also requires a unique bonus offer code :(.

Patti
Patti

I’ve already finished my required debit purchases across 3 statements.
Do you think they can weasel out of paying the bonus by saying they were less than $1?

William Charles

If you signed up under the offer that didn’t require the $1 then you should be fine

Ken
Ken

Mine were all less than $1 and I received the bonus.

Jim

Thanks for sharing, was this the October 2017 offer that you received the bonus for?

Still awaiting mine and my SO’s. Both did 3 months of 10 debits each month. Just waiting, at this point.

Patti
Patti

Thanks!

Gibunono
Gibunono

Yes, Ken, can you confirm if you receive the bonus right after you did the third batch of 10 debit card transactions or after 90 days from account opening, since the previous Wells Fargo bonus usually only requires one-time 10 debit transactions and they usually deposit the bonus credit very quickly after meeting the requirement. That is not the case for this one, at least for me. So want to ask about your DP. Please share it here if you want to. Thank you!

signed up in nov and did the required things. did anyone get their bonus yet?

Mims
Mims

Same here. No bonus yet, but the terms do state “within 45 days after qualifications have been met.” So I suppose that means we need to wait up to 45 days from the January transactions.

Bonus posted today, 1/18. Thanks, Doc.

P.S. I finished my transactions on January 6, and I did receive a consumer bonus in July 2017.

Jim
Jim

Great to hear, thanks for sharing. To confirm, you performed the 10x debits within each 30 day period since account opening? Not per the 30 day statement cycles?

I completed mine back in late December (debits in Oct, Nov and Dec), so hopefully it works out

sonia

thanks mims! just got mine today as well 😀 my last transaction was on the 15th if anyone wanted to know

Great, thanks for sharing. Did you happen to receive a personal/consumer bonus in 2017, too?

Same as you. Signed up in Nov and performed the required debit card transactions. No bonus yet. Will wait a few days and send them a note to see the status of the bonus.

Awesome, mind sharing when you finished your last debit transactions?

And if you got an earlier consumer bonus the past 12 months?
