Our Verdict

$300 is excellent and well-worth jumping on if you can satisfy the direct deposit requirement. Previous data points indicate that most ACH transfers count as direct deposit for Wells Fargo. Let us know if it works this time.

WF previously hasn’t enforced the 12 month language for a second bonus either, at least according to this DP. I was able to get the $150 bonus, close it out when the scandal hit, then get another $300 only a few months later.

I suspect they’re not enforcing a lot of these requirements to get their new account number up…

Hmm… I’ll have to think about doing this then.

Yea, I also recall reading something along the lines of them not enforcing the 12 month rule , but I can’t find the post/thread… Given that discover ACH push counts as a DD, I may just give this a try since it doesn’t really tie up any $$.

Copy and paste error? This is the $300 bonus, no?

“All consumer checking accounts except Teen Checking are eligible for the $200 bonus when opened in a branch. Only certain checking accounts are available when opened online.”

William Charles

Fixed, thanks TWoK

Is it possible to ask for matching the offer if I opened a Wells Fargo checking account several weeks ago?

William Charles

It’s always worth trying, Capital One is known for not matching though: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/which-credit-card-issuers-will-match-a-higher-signup-bonus/#Capital_One

i don’t get it. question is WF and reply is Cap1?!? did doc just got confused or i’m missing something?!?

William Charles

Yeah I got it wrong. Reply is basically the same, always worth trying and wells fargo is known for not matching: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/which-credit-card-issuers-will-match-a-higher-signup-bonus/#Wells_Fargo

thanks doc. thought for a second the two banks merged or something. :p

Update: Just went to a branch and got negative reply, but the reason they gave me is that I’m a non-resident alien. Not sure if they’ll match the offer if I’m a U.S.person.

Wells deserves no respect and has earned their soiled reputation. They recently closed my account for no reason and with no warning. Got the bonus in February, used a DD incoming every month to avoid the fee and spent it down paying 4-6 bills. No foreign transactions, money orders or any other funny business. Their explanation for closing: my monthly statement balance closed at $0 for three months in a row. Wouldn’t touch them with a 10 foot pole. If you bite at this offer take the bonus, close your account ASAP and move on.

You gotta leave some play money in there for WF to play with…

Can I ACH the 1,500 and then ACH it back out and repeat? or Do i need to keep the 1,500 there each month?

hi, i just got approved for $300 bonus offer. yay! thanks a lot to you doctor! one ques though – i can do DD through my payroll. can i do $750 every 2 weeks to satisfy the $1500 per month requirement? thanks again!

J. Grant
J. Grant

I’m no doc, but I think you should be able to do that. If you really plan on doing your REAL salary DD, then feel free to call WF to confirm. You wanna make sure to get this bonus.

Personally, I’m going to transfer money from Chase and Discover, since both seem to work.

Save the DD for banks that REALLY require a legit DD to get the bonus. Some don’t accept bank to bank ACH transfers. Just my 2 cents…

Going for my third bonus in 12 months (4th if you include my business account). I’ll report back on what happens!

Are the 3 consecutive calendar months or months of account time? i.e. If I open one mid Oct and get a DD in before end of OCT, then 1 during Nov and 1 the first day of DEC that would make the 3 consecutive months?

same question here..

I screwed up.. I opened this account in early December and then completely forgot about it. I’m glad to see that we have 150 days to meet the requirements.

I’m wondering whether the terms mean it’s counted as 3 months starting from the 1st of the month each month.. or 2 months starting from the beginning of the statement cycle?

Anyone has idea to get it if people are not living in selected area? Really appreaciate one approach!
