Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
First class checking account has no monthly fees to worry about.
Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find an early account termination in the fee schedule
Referral Bonus
There is also a $50 referral bonus for both parties. Last time Wings Financial offered a bonus the referral bonus and the main bonus stacked. Do not share your referrals in the comments below, you can share them in this linked posted instead. Some discussion on linking the promotions here.
Our Verdict
Previously this was called Wings Financial Credit Union, now called Wings Credit Union. Last time they offered a $300 checking bonus. Keep in mind you’re excluded from doing this bonus if you’ve done a Wings one before unfortunately so that will exclude a lot of readers. The Platinum Plus Savings account earns 4.75% APY when you have $25,000+ and a direct deposit of $300+ so the savings bonus is also worth considering as that’s already competitive with the top high yield rates before taking into account the $200 bonus (you’d need to hold the $25k in there for ~3 months minimum which works out to be 3.2% APY annualized. Keep in mind how they calculate rates is a bit misleading). We will add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

Please keep comments to the actual topic on hand. People are subscribed to the comments to learn about the specific bonus, not to hear people air out grievances.
If you have a question I’d recommend asking it once otherwise it clutters the thread and peoples inboxes. As always, be the datapoint you want to see. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
So any plan to clean up the 20+ comments that someone left today? (Outside of the 19 repetitive “individual” questions about Chex numbers) Or, is Eric the only one allowed to leave “grievances” and opinions. There are two sides to every story!
I have to agree here — can you please delete the last several pages of nonsense? I’m not interested in who’s right or wrong, and I don’t even know either of these contributors. Like I assume many other readers, I just came here looking for data on Wings CU, but the endless amount of whining and spamming of the last 40+ posts has rendered a useful thread entirely dysfunctional. Thank you!
They claimed I didn’t put the promotional code in when signing up. Even after escalating and having them consider an exception, they denied me any bonus whatsoever.
Judging from other comments, it sounds like they’re telling everyone this. Seems like a very sketchy bank. If you ever want to do one of their bonuses, take screenshots and prepare to fight.
No issues with my checking or savings bonus.
Wings has increased their referral to $100/$100. DPs suggest they still offer up to $1,000 max in CC funding (Share Saving + Everyday Checking) for new member accounts.
Trying to bolster their numbers going into the merger? Without a stack, I don’t foresee much action on this.
It’s in play for those in need of meeting a CC sub while slipping in some extra $ on the side. I wouldn’t dismiss the CC churners that prefer this route for MS, it’s an increased ofter if peps want the option nevertheless.
I’ll take it, need my SUBs more than the wait. Any other banks where I could try?
Not sure where your location is.
Try 3K US Bank Business Checking. It’s nationwide I think. You can check out the specific post for that.
Also get the Business savings later, another 3K cc funding.
This has some usefulness, might need some updates but still informative. GL!

Are you keeping the Platinum Savings to earn 4.25 apy ?
As I understand there is a change in the DD requirement.
Now it requires $1000 DD in the previous month. Not sure when the change was made but it looks like if someone like me who stopped the DDs once the bonus posted you cannot quickly make amends by turning on DD in the current month.
Did I get it right ?
I didn’t have P3 do the Plat Savings offer, and I didn’t open that account either. Sorry, but I haven’t been following the DD requirements.
OK thanks
I’m doing that but trying to transfer money out and can only transfer out ~$6000 per month, I dropped below $25k and now my dividend rate is 0 on platinum savings
Use a hub account to pull the funds. Ally, Fidelity or Schwab brokerage, Alliant, LendingClub, or whatever bank you choose that you use that allows large transfers and trusts you.
Jb
oh great thanks for the advice! I actually have liked my experience with wings, and was considering setting up a trust account with them but then that transfer limit came up and that really killed it for me, but if this works then I might still consider
Any reason to keep the accounts open ? I got the bonus early April. I plan to keep them open for 1 more month. Any suggestion? Thanks.
1. The recent promotions from Wings CU had this language: “Cannot have previously received a new account bonus.” So the checking bonus was not churnable.
2. The $50 or $100 referral program has been ongoing for years.
The above two may make a case for keeping your account open. But on the other hand, as Wings CU will be merged with ENT CU soon, it is possible the new entity may run new promotions that are churnable and open to previous members that have earned a bonus.
Ok really weird occurrence with this. I did the promotion and qualified for it except they said I did not put the promo code in when I signed up for the account. I remember doing it. I tried a CSP. They told me I wasn’t getting it. I tried the BBB. Than I got a letter from Wings saying their lawyers said I didn’t qualify for it. Whatever. Closed my account in early April, decided to just call it a loss. I randomly got a fedex envelope yesterday with a $400 check saying the matter is now closed. So very strange. I mean I’m happy but wtf?
Came her to post this. I also was told the promo code as not applied however all other requirements were met so a “courtesy buisness decision was made”. I also filed with the NCUA and ultimately was told by wings it was my fault. I called it a loss and closed the account. Received the fedex envelope also after closing. The cashiers check however had misprints on the routing/account number so I couldn’t deposit it via mobile. Had to cash into local bank. Will probably be skipping any future bonuses from this bank unless I record the entire sign-up process lol
Wings isn’t currently churnable anyways, so you’re not missing out.
As far as I can tell the interest rate WITH dd is now only 4.25%
and without DD it’s currently only 4.00%
I can’t see my April statement yet for Platinum Savings. But from the amount of interest posted and my calculation of average daily balance, I know that an interest rate of 4.17% was applied when calculating the April interest (that would be about 4.25% APY). That’s about 0.24% lower than in March for me when I definitely have the DD rate bump. And when I view my account details on 5/3, it says the Dividend Rate is 4.17%.
My question is – is the interest rate I got in April the regular rate or the bumped up DD rate?? Can anyone confirm what the bumped up interest rate was in April?
I’m not sure if the lower interest rate applied to my account in April is because Wings has lowered the interest rate again, or perhaps I didn’t qualify for the rate bump in April (I switched in April from using a real DD to a push from Fidelity CMA to simulate a DD).
Per the Wings site on 5/3, Platinum Savings rates effective 5/2 are (assuming conditions are met):
With required direct deposit – 4.17% which is 4.25% APY
Without required direct deposit – 4.0% APY
But I’m not sure what the rates were for April.
They probably lowered the rate in April.
They have also changed the language for bumped rate qualification.
$1K DD in the previous 34 calendar days.
That language is the same as when I opened my Platinum Savings Account in December 2024. Per a Wings CSR, the $1k DD can be into any open Wings Account, does not have to be into the Platinum Savings account.
Wings put another condition to receive the bumped APY. I am not sure if this is since May.
To receive the featured rate, one or more ACH direct deposit(s) totaling $1,000 or more required in the 34 calendar days preceding the last day of the month. Platinum Plus Savings rate without direct deposit: 4.00%
So DD needs to be
Did you notice this preceding 34 days clause in April ?
Do you also need a 25k balance ? I dropped below 25 k and despite dd over $1k I’m getting 0% now, and they only let me transfer out about $6 per month , anyone know a way around that ?
I sure hope that “$6 per month” is a typo. Either way, you are free to use your external account(s) to pull all of the funds out of Wings.
Failed DP. Capital one did not code as direct deposit and did not work for the bonus.
Has anyone received the $50 for refering?
I referred a few people a couple months ago but have not received any.

Last Wings referral GC I received was approved on 01/31/2025, per the portal, and arrived via email on 2/21/25. Subj: Your Wings Financial Referral Reward is here!
Not sure why it takes 3 weeks to get an email but such is life.
Same here. Never got the bonus for referring P2

Thought I hadn’t gotten the bonus for the savings promo but just realized the bonus came into the checking account rather than in the savings account and I had received the bonus.
A bit involved, but thanks to DoC and other commenters for DPs I used for this bonus run.
just wanted to report that Cap One doesn’t work as direct deposit. learnt it the hard way and later confirmed it with the rep
