Our Verdict

Easy money if you were targeted; you can always switch back your default payment method afterward. (It’s actually good timing with one of the Discover Q4 2020 categories being Amazon.)

I get “you were not eligible for this promotion,” hopefully others have more luck. We’ll add this to our Complete Guide To Saving Money On Amazon (Save 8% – 27%+).

I was targeted by this offer. I followed the instructions and add my Discover It credit card as the default payment method. However, when I checked out for eligible items, the $15 discount did not show up. I then contacted Amazon via live chat. The customer service representative told me that I did not get the discount because of the system glitch. So, the representative manually added the offer to my account. After that, I could see the $15 discount and used the offer successfully.

We will never know if we should keep adding/removing our Discover card or keep it saved as a payment method to get targeted. The algorithm is algorithm.

I had removed my Discover card as even though I had been shown ads on Amazon, when I clicked on them, they stated that I wasn’t eligible.

Today, I clicked this ad on NYTimes, and I was allowed to enter my Discover card on the same page as the offer – https://www.amazon.com/adlp/discover2020b. In fact, for me, it explicitly stated that Step 1 was adding the Discover card & Step 2 was setting it as default. So, you can be targeted even if you haven’t even added (probably added in the past & then removed) your Discover card as a payment method!

I went thru your link and it still says I’m not eligible. DoC first link shows a gold card, second link shows a red card, and your link shows a redcard. I think DoC 2nd link and yours are the same.

If you are shown the ad, I would suspect you should’ve been eligible from the beginning. I have never been shown the ad ever.

If you are buying an eligible item and the discount is not getting applied, the reason is mostly because you are going thru the checkout process. you need to click the ‘Buy Now’ button from the item page.

If you are trying to buy something that meets the terms of the offer and the $15 is not being applied then contact Amazon support via chat and tell them the offer is not working for your item. They should “fix it” and the $15 credit will be applied to the order at checkout.

I’m looking to buy a bike light, and it worked for me for that item. Try Item B01F0FCAKW to see if that works for you.

Thank you Steve! I just tested it using the bike light and it worked so the item I was trying just isn’t eligible.

Nothing was working for me and I decided to contact them via chat (amazon) to see if I was doing something wrong. They said they “fixed it” and then it did work. So maybe something is wrong on the back end..

I’m going to try this exact thing because I already had it as Discover being my default. Hopefully it’ll work for me as well.
