[YMMV] American Express Transfer Bonus: 20% To Etihad (1:1.20)

The Offer

  • Some American Express members are being targeted for a 20% transfer bonus to Etihad. Normally you can transfer 1,000 Membership Rewards points to 1,000 Etihad points. Under this promotion you’d receive 1,200 Etihad points.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 7/30/2022

Our Verdict

We have only seen one American Express transfer bonus to Etihad and that was in 2015 when Etihad first became a transfer partner (that was for 30%). As always with these transfer bonuses these are worth doing if you have a short to medium term need for the miles but otherwise it’s not worth the risk as a devaluation could come at any time. seems like I wasn’t targeted. what a pity, would have meant AA flagship first US-LHR for only 42k MR. what a steal

I agree, it’s a great deal. I found saver availability yesterday for flagship first from LHR to JFK on Aug 31, so I took advantage of the transfer promo. Can’t beat international first class for 42,000 points, no matter how much AA’s product sucks compared to other airlines.

Kal, nice! On the Etihad site, I couldn’t get LHR to show as an option? How did you go about finding the AA partner availability and booking?

I used ExpertFlyer to find the AA award space. I then called their customer service to book it. Their customer service although nice, doesn’t seem very experienced on booking award flights on AA. So if you find award space, just be persistent if they don’t immediately see it on their end.

AA award space is not searchable or bookable on the EY website. You have to first find saver availability elsewhere such as BA or QF, and then call up EY by phone to book.
