- Get 2x fuel points on the purchase of Amex gift cards at Giant, Stop&shop, and Martin’s
Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.
The Fine Print
- Valid 9/15 through 9/21 (starts Friday, 9/15)
- Must use store card to get and use the points
- Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying

Gas Points Details
Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.
- Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
- You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
- Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
- See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
- Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.
Our Verdict
Not the best deal since Amex gift cards need to be used up for regular spend, plus it’s only 2x. Still could be useful for some.

Nit: Stop and Shop gas points can also be used at Stop and Shop gas stations. I know there are some in the Boston area, not sure about elsewhere. It’s the only place where I’ve seen bar code scanners on gas pumps (used for scanning your Stop and Shop card).
Unless somebody has a “secret” way of liquidating AMEX GCs these days (I’ve got nothing since venmo stopped taking them), this deal is just too paltry to bother with.
It’s not “terrible” if you didn’t jump on the 4x MasterCard offer a few weeks ago. 5-6% on grocery purchases with some cards, and then you can possibly buy Gift of College cards at toys r us if you need them. But I do agree, the Visa or Mastercards are a lot easier to unload/deal with.
On a random note, a few months ago, Giant was offering 4x the points on Amex. One way of liquidating is buying Gift of college gift cards at toys r us. My brother went to dental school….. Lol.
You can use Amex GC to purchase GoC from Toys R Us? I didn’t they accepted, this would help a lot lol
Yep, I went in there with like 4k to unload one time… Some lady started telling me that this was money laundering, I was got a little ticked by that. She kept saying that “you can’t use gift cards to buy giftcards”. Long story short, she was clueless. A manager came out and I explained that I was getting points to get some free gas at giant. Had my receipt handy just in case. They were totally cool and understanding. I stood there for about 5 minutes swiping each card and adjusting the “payment” to $500 each time. I think I did about 8 swipes for the 4k of GoC cards. Just a heads up though, give it a few hours for the Amex cards to activate. I went to Toys R Us right after buying the Amex, and they did not activate, so I burned through like 16 GoC before I figured that one out…
I’m all set for 2 months of free gas (possibly 3) with the prior weeks mastercard 4x points. Passing the amex this time.
How’d you get your points to last more than 30 days? Our S&S gas points expire after 30 days (Eastern Mass)
In PA, giant gas points are valid for the current month and the next. Also no limit on price of gas. Free for 25 Gal max /trip as long as you have enough points for the price of gallon.
