[Expired] 2x Fuel Points on Visa & Mastercardt Cards at Giant, Stop&Shop, Martin’s [10/13-10/19]

The Offer

Stop&ShopGiantMartin’s (offers not showing yet, will show in next weeks circular)

  • Get 2x fuel points on the purchase of Mastercard & Visa gift cardss at Giant, Stop&shop, and Martin’s

Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 10/13 through 10/19 (starts Friday)
  • Must use store card to get and use the points
  • Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying
  • “We now accept credit cards for the purchase of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express gift cards”

Gas Points Details

Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.

  • Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
  • You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
  • Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
  • See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
  • Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
  • Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.

Our Verdict

Not as good as the 4x offer they recently had on Mastercard but at least this one includes Visa cards as well (last offer was American Express and only 2x). Fine print states it excludes Mastercard gift cards, but I suspect that’s just an error.

So… I bought a variable load Mastercard GC and did not receive any fuel points. Receipt said 0 and app doesn’t show the points either. Fine print seems to have an error that says mastercard gc don’t apply for this promotion? That makes no sense. Can anyone shed any light or provide suggestions? Thanks

Did you have your Stop & Shop membership card scanned before paying?

Yes. I’m wondering if anyone else had this issue. So strange the fine print in the ad says Mastercard GC don’t apply, but the title includes Mastercard GC

I noticed the MC exclusion in the terms and did a test run by buying 1 VGC and 1 MCGC on Sunday…only received 1000 points.

Later in the days, I did make a second purchase for 2 VGC…received the full 2000 points.

Based on the above, MCGC is excluded from the promotion…despite what appears clearly in the ad. May or may not be worth the effort to ‘argue’ with customer service…entirely up to you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response. I’m gonna fight with CA because I received 0. Wouldn’t if I had earned anything. Will, you should update the post to say that MCGC don’t work here.

Just to clarify, my purchases were all in Stop & Shop supermarkets. Initial one in NJ, subsequent one in upstate NY.

Good luck.

MCGC works with Giant in PA. You need to look at the local ad in the store to see what is available in that area. Sometimes it varies by region/location. I just finished a bunch of MCGC purchases in the last 3 days.

I’m jealous of anyone who gets these! I only ever get these from my local store:

Shell in New York are overpriced so I wouldn’t bother with any fuel points but would just buying mastercard debit cards for MS.

Most places Shell are overpriced (except in VT I found on one trip there) and that is what I thought as well, but with points expiring from previous promo, I just looked around on Gas Buddy found the least expensive Shell which was still 20c more than Costco gas, but after the 1.50 off comes to still $20 plus in savings over Costco/BJs gas which are the cheapest gas in my area. So don’t let the $20+ go to waste if you are buying for MS anyway.
Note that you need to pay with Shell GC to get the best cash rate which is just as well because I got the GC from S&S to make 6% on it from BCP.

Here is also hoping the 10 off MC digital coupon from last time comes back tomorrow.

The ad that is posted only shows Visa and MC but Visa, MC and Amex is shown in the title of this post.

Does anyone know if all gas points are drained after a fill up?

Say I had 2,000 points and there’s a $1.50 max discount. Will I still have 500 points on my account for the next fill up, or will my account be drained to zero?

Depending on where you are, there may not be a limit on how many points you can use. In central PA, you can use as many points as you want. Essentially pay nothing up to 25 gallons.

Stack this with the Sears Mastercard deal and you’ve got yourself something good!
