Alternative To 75,000 Business Gold Rewards Offer (Referral)

In case you missed it American Express will be making some major changes to the business gold rewards card. One of those changes includes increasing the annual fee to $295 and making it so it’s no longer waived first year, plus adding some benefits. Because of that I think it makes sense to apply for the card now if you’re eligible. The best offer is currently 75,000 points after $10,000 in spend. There are two issues with this offer:

  • It requires calling in and there is no guarantee they will offer it to you
  • It requires $10,000 in spend

One alternative is either referring yourself to this card or getting a friend to refer you. Whoever refers you will receive up to 15,000 points and you’ll get the standard 50,000 points after $5,000 in spend within three months. That means you could potentially get 65,000 points after only $5,000 in spend. We talk more about universal referrals here. Please do not share your referral links in the comments below.

When the Premier Rewards Gold card was refreshed it was possible to get an offer of 50,000 points after $2,000 in spend with the annual fee waived before the officially relaunch. After the relaunch the best offer is 50,000 + $100 without the annual fee waived. That’s why I’d recommend signing up now, but it’s also possible the sign up bonus will get significantly better after the refresh on the business card (my guess is no).

I logged into my AmEx account’s Refer a Friend page — but don’t see/can’t see how I generate a referral link for a BGR. Any tips? Can I self-refer for any card?

Thanks Bill, combined inquiry with another personal charge card.

Thanks DoC for the heads up! It’s tough keeping up with Amex! I just got approved for the 50K/15K after $5K for the self referral. This is my 12th Amex Card.

Applied and approved instantly using a self referral from my platinum card. The 10k spend was just too high, I’ll happily take 65k points for half the spend. Thanks Doc as always.

Got an question. I only got the 10k referral (from Amex EveryDay) so max is 60k if I do self-referral.

I do not have any business credit card with Amex. When I signup, should I login to my personal or create a new separate business account login? Can it be merged? I know for Chase, its better to separate login for personal vs business but how about Amex?

after some googling, it shouild be fine to have business and personal card intermix in 1 single user account.

when i click on referral link sent to me (I had the BGR In the past) i get this disclosure on left side of screen “Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility”.

SHOULD i proceed with application still and see if a pop up box warns me, if not then apply again via this referral link i got, or should i STOP and not proceed?.

Please reply urgently as this is time sensitive
