Amazon $30 off $60 when Using MR Points, Works on Gift Cards! [Targeted]

The Offer

Direct Link (this post contains our affiliate link)

  • Get $30 off $60 on Amazon.com purchases when using Amex Membership Rewards shop-with-points

You can even use a single Amex Membership Rewards point and still get the $30 discount, and the deal works on gift cards too!

The left image below is from a $60 AirBnB electronic gift card and the right image below is from $100 Whole Foods physical gift card:

Here’s how to go about doing this deal:

  1. Link your Amex Membership Rewards account to your Amazon account if you haven’t already
  2. Click to Activate this offer to your Amazon account here
  3. Add $60 or more of eligible products shipped and sold by Amazon to your shopping cart
  4. Proceed to checkout & select your Amex Rewards Card as your payment method
  5. Select the amount of Membership Rewards Points you’d like to use for the purchase (must use points for at least $.01 of the purchase)
  6. Up to a $30 discount off $60 will be automatically applied at checkout; no promo code needed

The Fine Print

  1. This is a limited time offer. The promotion will end at 11:59 PT on 12/31/2017. The promotion code will expire concurrently. Amazon.com reserves the right to cancel or modify this offer at any time.
  2. Offer is available by invitation only, is non-transferable, is not redeemable for cash, and may not be resold.
  3. Offer applies only to the purchase of at least $60 of eligible products, where Membership Rewards points are used for at least a portion of the purchase and the promotion code is entered at checkout. Taxes, gift-wrap, and shipping and handling charges do not apply when determining minimum purchase amount.
  4. The maximum benefit you may receive from this offer is $30 per eligible Membership Rewards enrolled Card.
  5. Offer is not available to American Express Membership Rewards eligible cards whose points have been previously used for purchases at Amazon.com in the past twelve months. (Note: Multiple reports say that this isn’t being enforced.)
  6. Offer does not apply to the purchase of digital content.
  7. Offer only applies to eligible products shipped and sold by Amazon.com.
  8. Items must be purchased in a single order and shipped at the same speed to a single address.
  9. Shipping charges may apply to discounted promotional items.
  10. Limit one promotion code per Membership Rewards eligible card.
  11. Offer may not be combined with other offers.
  12. To redeem the offer, you must be logged into an account which has been active for 30 days or longer.
  13. Offer discount will be allocated proportionally among all promotional items in your original order. If any of the items in your original order are subsequently returned, your refund will equal the original price of the product, less the proportional amount of the discount. The total discount on the unreturned amount of your original order will then be less than $30.
  14. If any of the products related to your original order are returned, subject to Amazon’s refund policy, you will receive a refund of the card amount first, followed by Membership Rewards points.
  15. Promotional codes (including those placed directly in accounts) may not be redeemed for Amazon Gift Cards.
  16. This promotion is available only to Amazon.com customers with an eligible American Express card issued in the United States.

Our Verdict

This deal is working for many people, but not everyone. And it works on third-party gift cards too, both physical and electronic! Probably worth just buying a gift card or some other item now in case it gets used up, but hopefully it’ll last through the holiday shopping season as it’s set to expire on December 31. I’ll also send this out with the Dochotdeals Twitter account in case it doesn’t last for some reason.

I’ll post here popular gift card links with our affiliate link. We appreciate when you use our links, but remember you can get 3x JetBlue by going through their portal instead.

E-gift cards can be customized to exactly $60 which maximizes the discount. Physical cards will have to be in their set denominations, usually $25, $50, $100.

  1. Dan says:

Thank you for your interest in this offer. Unfortunately, you are not eligible for this offer.

    • Chuck says:

Bummer. Added Targeted to the post.

    • Randy says:

I hit the button and it now has the promotion activated on my card but your instructions say to enter a PROMOTIONAL CODE and did not give the code. When I try to add 1 point the $30 discount does not appear. It also says on “eligible items”. Am I missing something??

  2. Edward says:

Thank you for your interest in this offer. Unfortunately, you are not eligible for this offer.

  3. Jon says:

What card is this for, again? Who gives membership rewards points? Sorry, still new to this.

  4. R says:

Not eligible on one account but works on other

  5. Michael Nel says:

IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST

  6. Lantean says:

Nice, ordered $75 of WF gift cards.
    😉

    • mommafrica says:

+1. I finally got one of these offers and used the same $75 WF’s method.
Now I’m making it even more of a point to obtain more Amazon gc’s via apps such as Seated (of which I also combine with Rewards Network when possible).

  7. Gaurav says:

Doc do you know if Blue for Business is eligible for pay with points from Amazon? Thanks.

    • Chuck says:

I’d think it would work. Unless there’s something special about charge card or maybe they simply didn’t hook that up properly yet. Let us know if you try.

      • Gaurav says:

Blue for business doesn’t show up as an option under cards eligible for shop with points. Also got a temporary number for an Everyday card that I just got approved for yesterday. Added that to Amazon and that doesn’t show up either. Hopefully this will still be around by the time the physical card show up.

        • Swag says:

My experience was it wouldn’t work on a card I had recently added. Last time I’d just gotten a Green card and I couldn’t get it to apply to the offer, but all of my cards that were already linked to Amazon worked. Amazon probably just doesn’t check if your card is linked to an MR account immediately.

      • Gaurav says:

This is the Blue Business Plus that came out earlier this year.

          • Lynn says:

Blue Biz Plus absolutely works. It is the only MR point card I have and have used it (1 point) for several of these promotions, including this one!

          • PG says:

Haven’t been able to get Blue for Business to work, either. Amazon doesn’t recognize it as eligible for pay with points. I was wondering if it is because it is a business card.

          • Gaurav says:

Interesting, Lynn, thanks for the info. I tried removing it and adding it again, still nada. Wonder how eligible cards get determined.

          • mommafrica says:

@ Lynn: absolutely. It’s the only 1 that I have and just used it a few minutes ago.

To those not seeing it as of now, it may possibly happen in a few as it’s possible that it just has to be filtered into Amazon’s system. I waited for a minute for it to happen while watching this offer continuously come and go.
As a matter of fact, 1 sites link that I tried to see if I were eligible from denied me and another said OK after checking into it. Could be anything.

          • JW says:

Blue Business Plus is what I am using and works.

@OP – How long have you had the card? I believe you need to activate the MR account if you didn’t already have one. I also think you also need to make sure there are MR points on it as well. (it look a while for mine to post)

          • Gaurav says:

I’ve had the Blue Business Plus about six months. Definitely earning MR points on it and have plenty in the account. Not sure why it’s still not showing up.

          • Gaurav says:

OK, so now I feel a little foolish. I had simply added my BB+ to my list of payment methods and assumed that meant that the card would be available for pay with points. I was on the AmEx website and saw a link on the BB+ to sign up for Amazon pay with points so I followed it and signed it up specifically for pay with points and everything worked out correctly. Was able to redeem the $30 last night :D. Hope this helps someone else!

          • Gaurav says:

Although I’m still trying to figure out why, on my Amazon pay with points page, my Chase and Discover accounts automatically show up as being eligible to enroll in pay with points but my American Express didn’t.

      • Raul says:

        I had the same question

    • Blue says:

Removed and added BB+ back; no option to use MR points from it.

  8. Aditya Shrivastava says:

Thanks! Bought $60 Safeway gift card.

    • anthonyjh21 says:

Hope you read the reviews… Be sure to print it out and good luck.

      • Aditya Shrivastava says:

I had not read the reviews! Thanks for pointing it out. I will print it out. I also noticed that there is no way to check the balance of Safeway gift cards. I will try to use it up ASAP.

        • Austin says:

The cashiers really struggle with Safeway e-gift cards. Just make sure they actually read the instructions printed on the GC. If they follow them it will work.

          • Aditya Shrivastava says:

Thanks for letting me know. I would have thought it should be as easy as just scanning the barcode and the total coming down 😀

          • captainsave says:

Do safeway giftcard work for at the safeway gas station?

          • RM says:

Yes, Safeway gift cards work at Safeway gas stations. And, because you are pre-paying, you get your change after filling up back in cash, not as money back on the card.

          • captainsave says:

Thank you! Got $300 safeway gift card for $210. Love these amex deals. But also found out today my $30 panda gift card was hacked and used. And amazon wont do anything about it. Lucky i only got it for $2.50, thanks to amex deals.

          • borntobehermit says:

I used a Safeway e-giftcard yesterday. The cashier had to call the manager because she said that she never saw one printed out before. The manager came and scanned the barcode and the amount was deducted straight away. The cashier asked me ‘how did you get one of those?’. And I said ‘I received it as cash-back promo’ (which is true).
Anyway, yes, it makes you feel slightly uncomfortable, but it works.

This time I ordered a $100 physical Safeway giftcard though. And the $30 discount worked. Thank you guys.

    • PG says:

I buy Safeway egc’s all the time and have never had more than a second’s problem with redemption.

  9. Morgan says:

    Nice! Worked for me!

  10. P says:

I got this error “Sorry we have reached maximum number of participation for this promotion”

  11. Jiehan says:

    It worked! Thanks for sharing!

  12. Harlan V. says:

Worked for me just now! Thank you!

  13. Adam says:

damnit never works for me. only offer that worked was the 20% off MR promo. but none of these other AMEX AMZN promos ever work. always say not eligible :/ I’d be the perfect candidate to target for various reasons (rarely use AMEX for AMZN purchases, not that active on AMZN so they’d wanna bring me back for more repeat biz etc)

    • MSer says:

Did you link an Amex card that earns MRs before you clicked the promo link?

      • Adam says:

Yep I’ve had a card linked for a month now. Like I said I successfully used the 20% off MR promo. So I have to link another card? Do I need to unlink & link back up again for this promo?

  14. MSer says:

    Nice. 2 for 2 accounts.

  15. Jab says:

Not eligible as always. Kinda mad this time

  16. Yao says:

Works for me! Bought $40 + $25 Startbucks gift card. Thanks DOC!

  17. Carol says:

It works for me. Two physical panera bread gift cards, 1 for $50, 1 for $25. Not work for buying panera bread e-delivery gift cards. May work for other e-delivery gift cards, you just have to try and see.

    Thanks a lot DOC!!

  18. Jason says:

    works! thanks a lot!

  19. Max Xu says:

Damn, no luck. Cashed in on the previous two Amex MR tricks though, oh well

  20. Curmudgeon says:

Bought some office supplies. Used 1 Amex MR point, got $30 discount. Total savings nearly 50% of order. 🙂

    Thanks DoC!

  21. Credit says:

When I try to pay by 1 MR POINT the only way it will allow me to pay for the rest of the balance is to charge my amex card. But your screen shot shows that you paid by your gift card balance. How?

    • Curmudgeon says:

I did the same thing. After the $30 discount, the 1 penny worth of Amex points and my gift card balance, there was nothing left to charge to the Amex card.

At the bottom of the payment options was a checkbox for using a giftcard balance – will it let you check that in addition to the Amex card & points?

  22. Matt says:

Just ordered some real items using your link, no gift cards. I used my PRG and also used it for the offer at the start of October that got $25 off? On that offer I unknowingly used $10 of points instead of $.01 🙁 Thank you DOC!

  23. Wyle says:

Sweet!! Gotta LOVE DoC. Thanks again for sharing such great deals. Two physical gift cards for my always-hungry son’s birthday. Doesn’t feel like using the affiliate link says “thanks” enough.

  24. William W. says:

    I was eligible! Thanks!

  25. noturbizniss says:

Based on terms seems it will work for au cards added to the account

  26. meathead says:

And this is why DOC is great. Dollar by Dollar they provide value. Thanks for $30 worth of free lunch- Starbucks, Subway, Panera…..

  27. Audrey says:

Is it only once? It says once per MR card but it only worked the first time (with a card I’d already used for an MR promotion).

  28. Blue says:

    Boom, got it!

  29. GM says:

worked on both accounts, bought hotels.com gift cards! Thanks!

  30. Lizzle says:

Worked. Got a $100 physical Safeway gift card, comes with free same day delivery for prime, and avoid the issues some Safeways have with e-gift cards.

  31. JVP says:

Just bought $60 Whole Foods egift using 1MR for a total of $30. Got the same promo in July.

    Thanks doc!

  32. Kevin says:

Got a Citi $10 1-click promotion that is good untuk Dec 15 too!

  33. Frito Pendejo says:

    Not eligible for this offer

  34. Mendel says:

    Quick advise!

Just placed a $100 order yesterday (non Prime shipping, so still cancel-able) and used the $25 off $50 Amex deal…
I’m eligible now for the $30 off $60 as well.

What happens if I cancel and reorder? Will it let me apply both the $25 off and the $30 off?

    • Chuck says:

I don’t think it’ll let. I had both offers on one account, hadn’t yet used the $25, and now I used the $30, but it doesn’t seem to be letting me use the $25. Maybe I lost it? Not sure.

  35. Kyle says:

For Nintendo Switch, the discount only works on consoles not for games even if they are shipped from and sold by Amazon.

  36. kirk says:

i also loaded my gf balance first with amazon chase card: $29.99 for an addt’l 5% savings = $1.50 :p
*nothing was charge to my amex card. only 1 MR pt.
bought a variable dominos e-gift card

    Order Summary
    Item(s) Subtotal: $60.00
    AMEX Discount: -$30.00
    Total before tax: $30.00
Estimated tax to be collected: $0.00
    Gift Card Amount: -$29.99
    Rewards Points: -$0.01
    Grand Total: $0.00

  37. chris a says:

How are you all able to use Amazon gift card balance? Once i select AMEX as payment method, it does not allow me to use my existing Amazon gift card balance. Am i missing something?

    • Jatan says:

With Amazon promo/credit offers you want to set the card that you want to use (Amex in this case) as the default payment method for Amazon — also enable pay with points on the Amex card. Now when you go to checkout the default card (Amex) will be automatically selected along with any GC balance you have — you should be able to select “apply Amex points” option during checkout.

I don’t have any Amex cards with MR pts so I can’t do this offer, but no problem using GC balance with other CC promo/credit offers

    • Alberto says:

It automatically put the gift card balance I had. I don’t know why it doesn’t work for you.

    • Chuck says:

Chris, I got it to work on one Amazon account but couldn’t get it to work on the other. Maybe Jatan’s idea of default card helps, I don’t know, neither of mine were default cards.

    • FLL says:

Read posts above your question – only when your Amazon gift card balance is equal or SMALLER than the order total, the site allows you to choose the gift card balance and the MR pt option. Else you cannot use the gift card balance.

Read back – there is a smart guy who found a way to work around this by artificially reducing his Amazon gift card balance before doing the AMEX MR pt deal.

The answers are in the upthread, but the post immediately replied you is NOT the correct answer.

    • juanbeny says:

I have the same thing as yours. The solution is to apply the gift card balance RIGHT AFTER you placed order. You should be able to find that option in the order page easily.

  38. Peter W says:

    Thanks for free $30! Awesome!

  39. Vishal says:

    Thanks.
Worked for both mine and wife’s Amazon accounts.

  40. Dave says:

Got the Bose Headphones for 161$ total with Tax!!
    Thanks DOC!

  41. Karen says:

Does not look like it works on amazon gift cards..

  42. John says:

Worked for Uber $65.00 Ecard. Used 1 Amex MR Point.
Got the prior promo, so appears to be working.

  43. airgypsy says:

Hi DoC! Sorry I still don’t get how to use GC balance after pating 1 point – it defaults to paying with a the linked cc after I choose to pay 1 point. Can you please do circle and arrow on how to do this step by step…I know it’s possible based on comments but just not getting it. Thanks in advance!

    • blue9 says:

Your GC balance needs to be lower that it cannot cover the whole purchase so the Amex card is used to cover left over amount. I made a purchase first to lower my GC, and then do this deal, then cancel the first purchase to get GC balance back.

  44. italdesign says:

Great deal and happy to support DoC. Thanks!

  45. Vic says:

I posted your link in a private forum. Hopefully it helps DoC a bit.

  46. Saf says:

Was beating myself for forgetting to use my JetBlue link, then I realized I used your affiliate one. All is well in the world. Thanks DoC!

  47. imh says:

thanks! worked on a $60 whole foods egc. paid $29.99.

  48. Andrey says:

Used on two accounts clicking the link. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  49. Rena says:

Bought two GCs, thank you very much DoC!

  50. Deborah Doctor says:

Just sent my niece a $60 Whole Foods birthday gc by e-mail, using the $30 off……..thanks so much, DoC

  51. Rocky_NNC says:

why do i have a tough time to buy stuff i need but are not eligible?
Is there an easier way to buy stuff which is sold and shipped by Amazon?

  52. CJS415 says:

This worked for me to buy a safeway e-gift card for $60. Tried to do it again and it said the promotion has maxed out. This was a score!

  53. Eugene says:

Can you use this promotion to purchase amazon gift cards?

  54. Jeff says:

Do I need to pay for the entire purchase with an Amex MR-earning card or can I use any credit card that I want and 1 MR point?

  55. Bill says:

Not to be disrespectful, but I bought a $60 Starbucks egift. Discount worked, previously used the Summer version of this offer.

  56. dizzy says:

Nope. Man, I haven’t been getting any of the amazon promos lately.

  57. Superchurn says:

Account #2 had it. Thanks DoC!

  58. Thank you! Worked for me on my wife’s account. I need to get my own American Express card.

  59. jf says:

Sweet deal! Had lots of amex mr offers lately! Was able to preorder a $60 nintendo switch game 20pct off, and got a baking set, got $30 off, plus had a samsung pay $10 off coupon, and then used $22 to cover the rest from a samsung debit card that I got (and some of that was from a browser trick here!) Thanks DOC!

  60. Paige says:

Thanks Dear Admin, clicked on your link for all my 6 different accounts and got $360 worth good for $180. You and your website ROCK

  61. venkat says:

Sorry we have reached maximum number of participation for this promotion

  62. Jeremiah says:

Was able to get this on both my account and my spouse’s account. Thanks for the heads up!

  63. Thanks for all the love <3

  64. Steve says:

I was able to do this on 6 accounts. Got $360 worth of Hotels.com GC’s for $180. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Mike says:

Can you tell us a few things these accounts have in common? High/low order volume etc?
      Thanks

      • Steve says:

I was able to do it 9x now. Very low order volume on each one, almost non-existent. Amazon caught on after the first 6 orders went through and cancelled orders 7-9 (I used the same card for each one). I went back in, added another MR earning AMEX card, used that card to pay, and orders successfully went through.

  65. MH says:

Hi, yet another “not eligible” offers. Just wondered out loud here… I wonder IF using the affiliate link is a part (to any degree) of the qualification factor matrix? I always use the affiliate link, but I wonder if using a non-affiliate link might impact this? Of course, the affiliates answer i think (and should be) no, but does any disinterested party know?

    • Steve says:

MH, it will help if you link an AMEX card that hasn’t participated in the offer previously. Consider that for the next opportunity as I believe this one has reached max participants already.
