Amazon: Latest Kindle Paperwhite (Waterproof) For $89 – Save $40 + 8% Through Portal

Update 5/6/19: Deal is back to $89. Amazon card holders can also get another 20% back. Should also be possible to stack it with the up to 25% back on Amazon devices from Discover or American Express.

Update 1/21/19: Price has now dropped to $89. Previous best price was $99. I already bought at $99 sadly :(. Hat tip to Running With Miles.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Amazon has the latest kindle paperwhite for $89, standard pricing is $129. This latest version is waterproof and comes with 8GB, you can upgrade to 32GB for an extra $20.

Our Verdict

I’ve been trying to decide whether to get the Kindle Oasis for some time, the only reason I wanted that is because it’s waterproof but this latest version is also waterproof. As far as I know this has product has never been discounted by Amazon at all. Get another 8% back by going through a portal. Deal is made even better when stacking other deals, a full list of stacking options can be found here.

Personally I’m a buyer at this price. Will basically be $80 after the portal discount. I definitely don’t need 32GB and don’t think most people will either, but I guess it somewhat depends on what you’re planning to use it for.

Got it with $30 Amex promotion (so they’re calculating the %25 off based on the original price), total of $59.99 before tax

I bought one of these when they had a deal last winter. 25% off with trade in, and I think I got $25 for the trade in. But I was disappointed with the performance. It was not any faster than my 2 year old paperwhite. I was hoping for a little faster response time, but no. I ended up sending mine back, glad I had not yet shipped them my trade in! But I will say that I do love my paperwhite! I wish it had a bit faster processor in it as it lags at times, but love it for reading in bed, in the car, or sitting outside after dark. My hubby hates light when he is trying to sleep so I am able to turn down the brightness so it does not bother him.

One more note; I talked my 84 year old mom into trying the Paperwhite and she loves it! Her sight is getting bad and she can turn up the screen brightness and also make the print LARGE so she can read it without wearing her reading glasses. She has had it for about a year now. At first I thought she got a defective one as she was having to charge it every 3 or 4 days. Then after talking to her I discovered she was reading on it for 10 hours a day, with the screen at max brightness! I created the Amazon account for her and I will load $10 to the gift card balance when needed, and I do not keep a credit card on file for her account. That way she does not accidentally sign up for a subscription or buy something expensive. I load free books on there now and them when I see some she might like.

The lighting on the Kindle Oasis is significantly brighter as well. Comparing the two side-by-side is night & day different. We actually returned a Paperwhite from Black Friday to upgrade to the Oasis, it was so different.

This stacks with 25% Kindle trade-in, the $15 audible deal, and the $30 off $60 using 1 Amex MR point bringing the total to around $22.

The same offer is available on staples.com. So for those with chase offer of 30% off and 5% from a portal you can get it for about 60 bucks:D

Thanks for the heads up about Staples.com. I was able to use my 30% off Chase offer (max $19) and $5 cash back from $75+ from RetailMeNot. Should be $66 before taxes. Might not be the best portal choice but RMN has been super reliable for me so far.

Looks like TCB is down to 8%. Is there another one that’s still paying 10% that I’m missing?

TCB is only one that gives 10%, but beware – it rarely tracks and they don’t accept Missing cash back claims for Amazon. It stick with Ebates 5%

The extra inch really does wonders. Also more comfortable to hold.

The 10% portal bonuses don’t apply to Kindles (& all non-alexa enabled devices) in the fine print.
