American Express To Add Centurion Lounge To LAX In 2019

American Express has officially announced they will be opening a centurion lounge to LAX in 2019. This had already been basically confirmed previously, but this is official confirmation from American Express that the lounge is coming. Here’s what we know so far:

  • Lounge will span 13,900 square feet
  • Will include a unique tranquility area, spa, family room and custom, visual wall installations (and standard Centurion lounge features)
  • Will be located post-security in the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) and accessible to Terminals 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8

Looks like the tranquility area will include both brightly and dimly lit rooms to help acclimatize with to new time zones. I’m a bit worried that the announcement just says 2019 rather than a specific month or even quarter, I suspect that means we will see it late late late 2019 or possibly even 2020 after the standard delays most projects have. American Express also has plans to add a lounge to DEN & JFK. It’s interesting that American Express are also adding things like tranquility areas and spa areas when overcrowding at other lounges has become such an issue that American Express has sometimes been forced to limit people to only accessing the lounge two hours before departure time. Personally I’m less worried about being able to access a spa and more worried about being able to get access to the lounge itself, a seat, possibly some food and even somewhere to do some work. I guess American Express is confident enough they will have room for both, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
