The Offer
Check your AmEx Offers for the following deal:
- Get a one-time $40 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $200 to pay for eligible rentals in one or more transactions made directly with Hertz by 12/31/2021. See terms.
The Fine Print
- Offer valid only for vehicle rentals made directly with participating Hertz Corporate Owned locations in the U.S. Rentals can be made through the Hertz U.S. website www.hertz.com, the Hertz mobile app, Hertz U.S. phone reservations, or in-person at participating Hertz Corporate owned locations in the U.S. Must pick up and return rental to Hertz Corporate Owned locations only. Eligible rentals must be paid by 12/31/2021 in order to qualify.
- Excludes independently licensed locations, Hertz Car Sales, and Rent2Buy. Not valid for bookings made through travel agents, third parties, or affiliate booking sites. Visit hertz.com/rentacar/location for information on corporate locations.
- Standard rental qualifications apply. Drivers under age 25 may have to pay higher rates. Remember to check your insurance policy and/or credit card for rental vehicle coverage.
- You may not receive the statement credit if we receive inaccurate information or are otherwise unable to identify your purchase as qualifying for the offer. For example, you may not receive the statement credit if (a) the merchant uses a third-party to sell their products or services; or (b) the merchant uses a third-party to process or submit your transaction to us (e.g., using mobile or wireless card readers); or (c) you choose to make a purchase using a third-party payment account or make a purchase using a mobile or digital wallet. Purchases may fall outside of the offer period in some cases due to a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction (for example, the purchase date for online orders may be the shipping date). Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 12/31/2021, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from merchant until qualifying rentals have been completed and vehicles have been returned. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying rental is cancelled.
Our Verdict
Nice discount and they make it easier by allowing multiple transactions to combine. This offer is something new as we haven’t seen Hertz work with AmEx before. I’m seeing the offer across my cards.

Hertz is sketch as hell. Dropped car off at airport in New Orleans Louisana on Friday, they “forgot” to close it out until I called in. Finally closes it out Monday now I’m looking at 3x the charge. When I got the car originally at the downtown center, they put a collision insurance charge for $40 on it and told me it was my “company” that pre-ordered it, when I know that’s not true.
Then they randomly put more authorizations on the credit card which led my credit card company to detect Fraud and cancel / replace my card. Should’ve just taken an uber but wanted to do some sight seeing and Enterprise was out of cars.
always get a close-out receipt when returning
lol noob
I got it on my AMEX Gold, will never use it, wish I could do it for someone.
Hertz is a very shady company, I’d go with them only as a last resort.
Whats up with them?
any context?
Any context for Hertz being shady? LOL !!
Here is one example where they keep having their customers arrested (“opps our bad!!”), but feel free to search for others:

Should be noted to get Primary insurance with AMEX you have to pay a $20 fee so this becomes really a $20 coupon.
use a card that provides primary coverage during rental, but switch pymt to that amex card when returning
now THAT is some next-level thinking
just like this is some next-level commenting.
(literally, not figuratively)
This would be great but I have had rental companies (not Hertz) claim damages weeks after I returned it with no issues.
when returning, a Rep inspected & closed out w/o any damages with a receipt, what’s the proof / validity for their false claim?
Not everyone can return during open business hours
