Our Verdict

Nice discount. In the past, I’ve had success buying a $200 gift card at the front desk of a Marriott hotel and triggering the AmEx Offer credit.

There’s also a separate offer for $200 off $800 at Homes & Villas by Marriott International which expires on 12/15/21.

Multiple stays totaling over $200 also resulted in $50 credit. Pleasant surprise!!!

Caution: this is for a single purchase, not cumulative

Can anyone confirm this? In the past, multiple transactions would trigger the offer even if the terms stated a single purchase,

Just confirmed with Amex CS = multiple transactions adding up to $200 will trigger the bonus.

I have a reservation with a total value of $182. Including taxes and fees, the stay will cost $212. Will the taxes and fees count towards $200?

Will an online room reservation (ex. $150) and charges to room during stay (ex. $70) trigger the offer? Amex language is very confusing

if you are buying at the front desk, do you need to have a room reserved and charge the gift card to the room, or can you just buy the gift card at the front desk even if not staying there?

Successfully done this a few times in the past, buy a physical GC in person at the front desk, then it’s indistinguishable from room charges & fulfills the offer. However, most Marriott brands do not have GCs, for instance only the “flagship” Marriott Hotel has them locally, among ~20 area properties. And only a certain manager could sell them. Call ahead.

Amex will NOT give the offer to an authorized user. Learned the hard way

Not true and I wish you would have phrased it better. I get where you are coming from though.

It depends on whether the offer is “Added” to the AU card. For instance, I got this on my main Plat as well as the two AU cards independently of each other. Could add to all 3 and use it 3 times if needed.

But, it wont work if it was only available and added on my main Plat and my AU tried to use the offer, who didn’t get nor add the offer to their card.

Hope this helps someone!

So if I made a reservation and prepaid with Amex fine Hotels collection can I pay anything charged to the room and resort fees with the card and get the credit?

Sure, just need to put the offer on your platinum card (FHR), and if your parking/meals/etc. is $200 or more, the offer will trigger.

will this combo with the Platinum benefit, in essence can be cash back for $200 booking? Or would that need to be $250+? TIA

It’s $200 paid to amex travel for the FHR booking (prepaid if you want the $200 hotel credit). If you want the $50 offer to trigger, you have to spend another $200 at the hotel directly on your folio, and it has to go on your platinum card (required for FHR bookings).

First time booking through FHR for me. So I have to pay any extra spend at hotel with platinum. My thought was to switch to Bonvoy Brilliant card for the extra points.

from the terms (see link, at the bottom), it looks like that is allowed (just the booking itself has to go on the platinum). The folio charges can be put on any amex card. https://www.amextravel.com/featured-hotel-searches?inav=menu_nav_finehotelandresorts
