[Expired] Amex Offers: Shell, $10/1,000 Points With $25 Gas Purchase When Using The App

Deal has ended, view more Shell deals by clicking here.

The Offer

No direct link, check your Amex Offers

  • Get a one-time $10 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $25 or more at participating Shell stations in the US using the Shell App by 12/13/2020. See terms for exclusions. Some are seeing 1,000 points on their Membership Rewards cards instead of the $10 offer.

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid for automotive fuel purchases made in-app via the Shell App at participating Shell stations in the US.
  • Participating stations can be found by using the Station Locator within the app.
  • In order to be eligible you must first load your Card to the app using a compatible device.
  • Qualifying spend must be met after any Fuel Rewards® savings are applied to an in-app purchase.
  • Excludes any payments not made via the Shell App, such as transactions made online or by phone or payments made at the pump.
  • Not valid on car washes, garage or mechanic services, or purchases made in convenience stores or at restaurants at Shell stations.
  • Excludes locations outside of the US.

Our Verdict

We saw the same offer earlier in the year but it required $30 in spend instead of $25. As always make sure to compare gas prices, but this should be a big enough discount to make it worth it.

anyone use PayPal for this offer? My transaction was posted 5 days ago and still no credit. Obviously no email. Not sure if I should wait (since term said 90 days) or contact Amex now to check on the offer’s eligibility.

Wait 90 days seem dumb since if PayPal not trigger I can have time to use GPay to trigger it

Paypal doesn’t work (avoid it unless you want to fight for credit) — use Apple Pay or Google Pay or Samsung Pay

used with Apple Pay from shell app on 9/27. barely cross $25 with $25.06. No email. $10 credit posted on 9/29. BTW, somehow it triggered shell mobile offer which is 25c off per gal. So next time it will be harder to reach $25…

I like how they didn’t bother to remove their boilerplate third party language:

“Offer valid for automotive gas purchases made in-app with a qualifying digital wallet via the Shell App.”

And yet:
“In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it.”

Well how the hell do they think Apple Pay works?

Thanks! I did the same thing and used Apple Pay in the Shell app and selected my AmEx card. Was wondering why I didn’t get an email right away. I’ll wait another day or two; still haven’t received credit for the offer yet. 🙁

Don’t have Apple Pay so I used Paypal via the app. There is a line in the T&C that says “Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 12/13/2020” so I’m going to be patient. I’d like for it to arrive sooner especially if other people are reporting they’re receiving their credits already but if it doesn’t come Amex does have some time.

Update: After waiting a month, I called in and CS rep said they see the purchase on my account and the offer. They are manually crediting my account the $10 credit within 48hrs.

these offers aren’t fair to fuel efficient car owners. on the other hand, i’m lucky enough to fill up my tank for less than $13.

I’ve thought of that, and I’ve also thought about a fire starting in my car or house, or it spilling in my home. 🙁

No Shell for me, about the only gas station I could put $25 in an almost empty tank since it’s so much more expensive than Mobil.

The offer terms start by saying: “Enrollment limited”. The last time this was offered earlier in the year, the offer disappeared on the first day as well. I saw the offer 3-something this morning and could’ve sworn I added it to my BCP that had zero offers added to it. I just looked and a different offer must’ve gotten added to it and the Shell offer is no longer available on any of my cards (it had shown on all cards this morning). The same thing happened earlier this year with Staples 10% back business offer being pulled early.

I am not sure it is the limit being met. I have a couple of occasions that the disappeared offer come back again. The recent case is the marriott offer. By the way, people are still seeing the offers based on the comments. Not sure how Amex handles it at the back end though
