AmEx Offers: Shop Small Dining, Spend $75 & Get $5 Back (Can Be Done Twice)

The Offer

Check your AmEx Offers for the following deal:

  • Shop Small Dining and get $5 off $75. Offer can be done twice.

Our Verdict

I didn’t notice it on my cards, but some are seeing this. Most small restaurants will likely work for this offer. Some fo the larger chains might not count as ‘Shop Small’.

Read the fine print, people.

Requires you to stand outside of the restaurant after your meal for a minimum of two hours, asking other patrons for spare change while brandishing your Platinum card.

Amex will top off your earnings to reach the $5 threshold. Excess earnings over $5 will be clawed back.

LOL. I thought it’s triggered by one transaction, so I added it to the wrong card

Well that’ll cover the ridiculous 4% CC fee most restaurants have started charging.

Still working on the amex gold sub, and got the offer there. Not the most amazing one, but it’s free $10 on the spend I’d put on that gold card anyways. I’ll take it.

That is a lot of food. I would find it difficult to eat $75 worth of food in one visit (at $37.5 per person for two people). (I am assuming the $75 has to be spent in one visit.) I just don’t eat that much (and I’m usually driving, so no alcohol purchases for me). I suppose eating at a more expensive restaurant would solve the $75 spend problem. Though if I had the money for more expensive restaurants right now, I likely wouldn’t be too concerned about saving $5, lol.

I suppose if you have a group of four ($18.75 per person), that would be a more reasonable amount of food. And I suppose if the restaurant sells gift cards, that would likely count towards the $75 total.

I take you don’t live in a HCOL areal. $75 for two at anything that’s better than a Denny’s is peanuts where I live.

Everywhere is quickly becoming a high cost of living area. But no, I don’t live in a traditionally high cost of living area. My cost of living is usually fairly-reasonable where I live (“fairly-reasonable” being a relative phrase… hasn’t be a walk in the park with the recent inflation no matter where you live).

Can be multiple transactions per the terms.

Wouldn’t take much to spend $75 at a restaurant where I live either. Could most likely use up both offers in 3 visits.

$5 off $75 for independent restaurants? It would be far less insulting if they just offered you 5% off such restaurants for a month.
