UPDATE: I called the number listed on their site today. The guy I spoke with said he knew what happened before he looked up my order. According to them, they received huge amounts of fraudelent orders the day the promotion launched. 400 got shipped, and the rest got cancelled whether fraud or not. He also said their tech team was supposed to update the shipping to free after $225 purchase before the promotion aired. Not sure how credible that is.

After he apologized, I asked if he could honor my order since it wasn’t fraudulent, to which he said no. However I asked if I could split payment methods over the phone, to which he said yes. I had this offer for myself and P2, so I split a new order between the 2.

He did mention during the process that the $100 was one per household, but I’m not sure how that is enforced if it is on both my and P2’s card. He took card info and I immediately received an order confirmation email.

He said it should ship today, but the company only has 7 employees that are currently manually cancelling all orders.

I’m not sure I trust my order will be fulfilled and haven’t seen a credit for my first order cancellation, so hoping I don’t get screwed here, but figured it was my turn to be the first DP.

Sounds like a sorry excuse by saying they got flooded by fraudulent charges just because they screwed up. So who do we complain to other then BBB?

They shipped a luggage tag I added to my original 2 orders to hit $225, and I have a FedEx tracking number. I got a shipped email for the rest of my order, but no tracking number was attached. I sent an email, and within 30 seconds they responded saying my order was cancelled. I pointed out it was an automated email and they said they’d check with FedEx and see what’s going on. That was today, so no update on that. No refund for my first 2 orders yet.

Emailed letter from today.

Dear Elegant Office Customer:

In our 23 years in business, we have always prided ourselves on delivering the highest level of customer service. Unfortunately, on June 30th 2023, we missed the mark as a credit card promotion was launched in error. This resulted in orders that we could not fulfill without going out of business. The promotion was “Spend a $100, get a $100″ but should have had a minimum redemption value of $225. As a small business with a handful of employees, we normally process 30-50 orders per day. Within hours of the promotion launch, we had 1900 orders with an average order total of $104.83.

We initially tried to fulfill the orders.. However, due to inventory constraints and our free shipping policy over $75, we realized that this promotion was not sustainable to our small organization. With much disappointment, we were forced to cancel the promotion and any outstanding orders. On July 7, 2023, we began manually processing returns for unfulfilled orders which took approximately 34 man hours. We have currently processed refunds for all the transactions that were not shipped.

Due to the large volume of refunds, our payment processor is reviewing the validity of some of these refunds. This is delaying the credit posting to a handful of customers’ credit card accounts. Hopefully, these outstanding refunds will be resolved over the next 5 business days.

We are aware that our company has been negatively reviewed on several online forums, and rightly so. We are in the process of modifying our internal promotion processes and marketing partnerships so that this does not happen again in the future.

Just saw, they reduced the shipping fee, even started free shipping over $75 like before, but no Amex as a payment!! Horrible!!
My initial order got canceled as expected, Amex clawed back the credit too! LOL

Similar experience. I ordered for $104 on 6/30 and received email confirmation with order details. Amex got charged for $104 and a credit of $100. But never received the shipment email. So, I emailed them today and got this response:

“Our apologies you weren’t notified, but we are unable to fulfill your order, as such it was cancelled. Your credit card has already been refunded, though it may take up to five days to see on your statement.

We are very sorry for the problems caused.”

Asked them again for the reason. Here is their response:
“The promotion was entered into in error. We apologize but cannot fulfill those orders.”

Reached out to them via email today as I hard ordered on 6/30, got the order confirm, but no shipping confirmation.
They said that the order was cancelled and that they are sorry they didn’t tell me, they refunded me on 7/7, but have yet to get the refund. They did sent me a screenshot showing the refund.
Looks like they are going to cancel all of these orders, and just refund them.
Oh well no big loss.

The company being too stupid to think through or understand the terms of a promotion that they, themselves, provided to Amex, does not cause orders made with that promotion to become fraudulent.
