The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Great Southern bank is offering 2.48% APY on its money market account if your balance is $2,500 or more

Avoiding Fees

This account has no monthly fees to worry about

Our Verdict

Not a bad high yield savings option, the higher interest accounts available either have a higher minimum balance or a lower maximum balance. Shame you can’t fund it with a credit card.

no hoops to jump thru is nice. and physical/local bank branches makes it more attractive than some others (for the scaredy cats out there).

A little misleading. Appears to be regional. Put in my zip code(63031-MO) and .70% comes up. Talked to the local bank and they don’t offer the 2.48%. Shucks.

my zip code in Texas also says .70% but if they allow $5k in credit card funding then I’ll fund $5k in 2 player mode and then close both accounts down for $10k in spends no problem.

When I pull up the offer from the link this morning it says ‘Available only in and around the Dallas metropolitan market area. Find accounts offered in your area.’ It’s too bad, I already have a checking account with them that I use for my MO deposits. Would have been nice to get more interest on my float each month.

I opened up a money market account and was able to fund $5000 with my Chase Freedom card and it posted as a purchase under a personal category. their website kind of sucks… I’m trying to see if there are any other accounts that I can fund with a credit card while I’m logged in and its impossible to do. I’ve never seen a more basic banking website than this one… their website security reminds me of HSBC.. I’m pretty sure I’m just getting .70 interest but I also got 5k UR points without buying gift cards.

I can’t manage to finish the application; every time I get to the e-consent form it fails: either I click it and lose the application because of unsafe scripting or I open it in a new tab and it won’t let me click the checkbox. I’ve tried a couple browsers and incognito mode in Chrome. Any tips?
