  • UMB is currently offering a rate of 2.32% APY on their money market account. To receive this rate you need a balance of $10,000 or more and it’s guaranteed for one year.

Avoiding Fees

This account has no monthly fees to worry about

Our Verdict

This is the highest personal savings account currently being offered with no requirements, next best is 2.25% APY. The rate being guaranteed for 12 months is a blessing and a curse, if rates rise then generally these guaranteed offers don’t also rise. You do get a bit of protection from banks just dropping rates as soon as they have gotten enough customers in though. How useful this account is will depend on the accounts you already have and how much you have in liquid cash. A lot of people will be better off just doing a bank account bonus instead of signing up for this account though.

I went by a branch to open this type of account today and was told that the offer had been ended early, on Thursday, due to higher than expected demand.

According to the banker who opened my account (CO) this promotion is ending on Thursday 9/13. No idea if she’s correct, but if you’re interested, you should probably jump on it soon.

to open the account, you need to deposit $100 min. (this is what brochure says, but the banker I met required $1000 minimum. not sure which one is right)
And there’s fee at $10 when the ave. balance is under $1000
