Barclaycard Removes Extended Warranty & Price Protection Benefits

Update 9/27/19: Full details of the Barclay changes can be found in the new post Barclaycard Overhauls Card Benefits – Mostly Negative Changes.

Update 9/26/19: Mention of cell phone protection being added for the Arrival+ card on 11/1. Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver and Identity Theft benefits will also be enhanced (e.g monitoring dashboard that scours the internet and dark web). Hat tip to reader VG. These changes will also apply to the AA & JetBlue cards.

Original post: Barclay’s is sending out notice on recent statements for Arrival+ cardholders and for Uber Visa cardholders about an upcoming change, effective November 1, 2019:

Your extended warranty and price protection benefits are being removed, however claims can be submitted for eligible purchases made through October 31, 2019.

The Arrival+ and Uber cards were the only Barclaycards that had Price Protection. There are likely other Barclay’s cards with Extended Warranty, and I’d guess those are ending in November as well.

There’s also mention in the Uber Visa notice of cell phone protection changing, but I don’t have details on the change.

We see Citi ending their Price Protection coming soon, on September 22nd. Citi kept their Extended Warranty benefit on most cards, only removing it from the Double Cash and Dividend cards. Citi is ending a whole slew of travel benefits on all cards as well.

Possibly the insurance provider used by the banks jacked up the price on the benefits causing the banks to remove as many benefits as they can.
