Earlier this year we decided to start doing a ‘best comments of <month>’ and awarding comments that were selected with a $10 Amazon gift card. The aim of this is to help point out useful comments for people that might have missed them and also to reward readers that provide helpful comments.
The hope is that this will make the comments section more useful with readers trying to provide datapoints and helping each other. One of the things I like about this site and something I want to foster is that sense of community and helping each other out. Now onto this months comments.
Credit Cards
- JakeFromStateFarm sharing his experience with the new Alliant credit card. Helpful for anybody wanting to know the process of applying for new 3% card.
- Pavel letting us know that matched Chase IHG points count towards elite status. Great tip for those chasing IHG elite.
Bank Bonuses
- MoneyD letting us know that the Wells Fargo checking bonus is more frequently churnable than we at first thought.
- Dmonstar letting me know that Old Missouri’s 3.01% APY account is available in Oklahoma and Kansas as well.
- MJG giving all the relevant information about a Bridgeview Bank bonus.
- Dave providing screenshots for an expired bonus and reuploading them again when the quality wasn’t great. Probably didn’t help a lot of people, but for people it did help it helped a lot (one of them even e-mailed me to nominate Dave).
- Reader Vijay getting a hard pull to warn others. Somebody always has to be the test dummy to find out if a bank bonus is good and bad and this time Vijay unfortunately received a hard pull.
- Max letting us know a bank isn’t inquiry sensitive and also what the free prize is.
- Reader Tom getting lucky with a $500 Wells Fargo bonus. Somebody always has to be the first datapoint.
Misc
- Jay coming through with a direct link for an Amazon offer for bonus $5 gift card with $25 gift card purchase through Alexa.
- If you were targeted for the American Express JetBlue offer and have an existing reservation, you can call in and change payment. Good tip by reader 12hrs.
- Jesse gives us the idea of using eBay flash sales to stock up on phone cards (though it doesn’t work on ordinary gift cards)
Final Thoughts
If you’re one of the above comments, check your e-mails and I’ll be in touch (just give me a few days to get it all organized). Thanks again to every reader that left a helpful comment, keep commenting and maybe you’ll be chosen next month!
Readers feel free to vote for your favorite comment below (can be one of the ones listed or just another random comment on the site) and I’ll pick the most popular one to win an additional gift (if somebody else has already mentioned it, you can just reply to their comment with +1). If people have other ideas on how we can build a better community, also let us know.
