Best Posts Last Week: IHG 5 Free Nights, American Express Refreshes & More

We’ve updated our best credit card bonus page for January. Chase is offering five free night certificates on the IHG Premier card, unfortunately the certificates are only 40,000 points per night (previously 60,000). American Express plans to refresh 35-50 products this year.

U.S. Bank is offering a $450 + $100 checking bonus. Grasshopper bank has a $300 business checking bonus, although getting approved seems to be difficult. Citibank is offering a $2,000 business checking bonus.

Uber is offering 6 free rides for teens. Costco has some nice deals starting 1/29 including $100 UberEats/Uber giftcard for $74.99 and $100 inKind giftcard for $59.99.

As always a lot of the good deals have already expired, make sure to either follow us on Twitter or get daily e-mail updates so you don’t miss any deals. If we missed any deals or you have an idea for a post, please let us know ([email protected] or [email protected]).

William continues to be right on the IHG card bonuses: 5 free nights is better value overall than even the elevated points sign-up bonus (170K). There are some noobs who disagree, like AC.

It isn’t an opinion, it varies based on the circumstances.

If you look at the 5 free nights, they’re capped at 40k, and they expire after a year.

So it’s only a better value if you can actually use them.

If you (a) are only going to stay at IHG properties which cost more than 40k, or (b) for whatever reason the coming year you’re not sure if you’re going to be able to stay 5 nights at IHG properties, then the points bonus is better for you because it works for higher-priced IHG properties and it lasts longer.

So while it may be a better value for many people, it’s not a better value for everyone.

So that’s why it’s not an opinion, but based on the circumstances of the person.
