Some readers successfully applied for the new SPG Luxury card during the the three day loophole. After applying and being approved, they have since been offered an upgrade offer of up to 100,000 points for upgrading the regular SPG card to SPG Luxury. We’ve discussed why these upgrade offers are worth a second look, but it’s mostly because the annual fee is prorated and you still get the $300 credit in the first year.
The big question has been: can you get the standard sign up bonus and the upgrade bonus? We now have confirmation that this is the case. This shouldn’t be that surprising as upgrade offers have always bypassed the one bonus per lifetime rules in the past but given how close together the sign up bonus and upgrade bonuses have been it’s nice to have confirmation.

If I have an upgrade offer now, and I also want to double dip and apply for new card, which should I do first?
Haven’t done it yet, as I’m not sure if applying for new card first will remove the upgrade offer, and wondering if upgrading first will exclude me from the new application bonus.

I would be concerned with AMEX trying to claw back points when they realize that you received the bonus 2 times on the same card. Currently, I have no problems getting instantly approved for their cards and getting the signup bonuses for each card. I would rather be on AMEX’s good side and keep it that way. I don’t need or want the RAT team scrutinizing my accounts. That’s just my 2 cents……
I upgraded my SPG personal to the Luxury last week but I didn’t apply for the SPG luxury through the loophole. Will I still be eligible for the sign up bonus for the SPG luxury card if I decide to apply in the future whenever that may be?

Just a datapoint. Can confirm that applying for Day 1 of SPG luxury = 100K posted. Then upgrade bonus offer following days later with no hardpull, confirmed bonus attached via customer service rep. Complete minimum spend then a few days later added an additional 100K SPG to my account. Total 200k SPG within a month or so.

Yes this happened to me too. I called and asked rep to see if they can find offer again and 2 reps said they couldn’t. Does anyone know how to get offer back? My upgrade offer was for 100000 points.
My 100k upgrade offer seems to have gone away. It’s now 50k for $2500 in spend before 3 months. Sucks as I was trying to time it as close to October 31 as possible to get the best prorated annual fee deal. Oh well.
FYI – A few weeks ago I had the upgrade offer for my SPG Personal Amex but when I login to Amex.com now and look at the SPG Luxury the Upgrade option is gone and it just says Apply Now.
Same thing happened to me. My offer explicitly stated a deadline of 10/31/2018. I am attempting to dispute it and get the offer back. I have screenshots and saw the offer ribbon on my AMEX homepage as recently as Tuesday of last week

I just called today and they are upgrading my SPG preferred guest. I already got the 100,000 points for the 3-day loop hole as well.

This is great news. I was able to secure SPG luxury new app on day 1 of loophole, received the points last week. I also took the 100K upgrade and am in the middle of spend. I did receive confirmation from Amex that I was eligible for that, so I have the chat transcript. The double confirmation will put my mind at ease.
But if you upgraded first then you see screwed of the applying through to get the bonus still huh?
Do you need two seperate logins? When i try and upgrade, it sees that i already have the card
