The Offer

Direct link to offer or here

  • Reader @djmomgenes received and offer of 100,000 points after $5,000 in spend within the first three months on the American Express personal Platinum card when checking CardMatch for pre-approved offers. Also make sure you’re choosing view ‘All Matches’ not just pre-qualified offers, you’ll see this option in the left sidebar (Categories > Pre-qualified/CardMatch Special Offers/All Matches)

Card Details

Our Verdict

It’s always a good idea to regularly check for pre-approved offers as often they have higher than normal bonuses such as this. Obviously no guarantee you’ll see this offer, in fact I imagine most people won’t. If this doesn’t work, you can also try getting the offer another way. 100,000 points after $5,000 in spend is usually as good as the offers get on the personal Platinum card, although they sometimes have targeted offers for 150,000 points after $10,000 in spend but those are quite rare. Keep in mind this does have a big annual fee of $550, but you do get the Uber and airline credits as well as good lounge access. As always read through these things everybody should know about American Express cards first. It might also make sure to check American Express directly for pre-approved offers.

Bonus History

  • Update 1/12/19: Another round of people being targeted. Reminder that it’s worth checking American Express for pre-qualified offers directly as well.
  • Update 11/18: Another round targeted
  • Update 10/04/18: New round of people targeted
  • Update 8/31/2018: Another round of people have been targeted.
  • Update 07/11/2018: Reposting as we’ve now had another 4-5 reports of people seeing this offer when they weren’t previously targeted.
  • Update 05/27/2018: Reposting again as new round of people are seeing the offer.
  • Update 04/09/2018: Reposting as as a new load of people have been again targeted. It’s worth checking American Express for pre-qualified offers directly as well.
  • We originally posted this on November 7th, 2017, reposting again on December 1st, 2017. Reposted again on February 17th for same reason. It seems that some people that weren’t originally targeted are now being offered this 100,000 points offer, so it might be worth rechecking if you tried it before. Goodluck

I got the 100,000 pre-approval.

I have not gotten the AMEX Platinum before. Does anyone know if the once in a lifetime language exclusion means I can get this card AGAIN at some point and receive the bonus?

Thanks.

@Doc it’s $5000 spend, not $3000. That or you put the wrong screenshot

saw the 100K offer, applied. Thank you, DoC

Given how difficult the incidental credit and uber credit can be used, the only thing i like about Amex Plat is the Centurion Lounge access. Now that Priority pass seems to be constantly improved, i’m not sure if the $550 fee can be justifiable.

And I got the Amex offer for Air France for 20K with the 5X ticket a $1100 ticket got me 25000 MR points ..

Been using both the uber credit and 100k in points for uber and its not difficult at all…

I am seeing the following fine print:

“Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have or have had this product.”

ninja421
ninja421

That’s been Amex’s “once per lifetime” language for a while. However, if you have a different Platinum card, you’d still be eligible for this one.

ninja421

Whoops, not sure where the “for a while” part came from.

Alex
Alex

Yes, but doc mentions above, “Once per lifetime language is not included in this offer, meaning if you’ve had the card/bonus before you are eligible.”

I was hoping on jumping on a second platinum card with this…

That’s what I was wondering, previously had the Ameriprise version.

As am I. Sadly. First line under “Offer Terms” in the full T&C page.

“Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have or have had this product.”

I see that when I click on “Rates & Fees”

Damn I’ve been holding off on an AX Plat application for a long time. Only prequalified for two Cap1 cards

DoC, I was not able to pull this up for myself, however it did show up for SO. I clicked on the link under SO’s logon, and it brought me to the Amex site. I logged in as myself (not SO) and it worked. Applied and approved under my name.

I got that error at first. I just clicked the link from cardmatch and it brought it back, as I was logged in to Amex.

Thanks Doc! Got it and applied. For some reason, I wasn’t able to add the card to my existing account, so I had to create another one.

lei

dont have to, you can log in to your current Amex account, online chat CSR and ask them to help you add the card to your account. But if you already create one, not sure if you can combine ti.

Got it and applied. Had been waiting for 100k Amex Platinum for a long time. Thanks, Doc.

Got it, went to apply. At least on mobile device, Amex forced me to log in to continue with application, at which point they said the offer was no longer available. Went back later on a computer, and the offer no longer came up.

scoreseasy

Just click on the cardmatch link again after you login to Amex. I got the offer after my second time on mobile.

Ivan X

Thanks. I tried again in a Safari private window on a computer, and again got the offer; and the click through did not require any kind of login at Amex. Got approved. Thanks Doc!

I tried a few times login but got to a page where the offer was not available anymore. After reading this, I copied/pasted into a private chrome window and was able to apply. Accepted within 30 secs. Thanks for the heads up!

Had similar issue. Saw offer on Cardmatch, followed link to Amex which displayed same offer. Amex made me login, at which point they said the offer was no longer available. Then went incognito – started back at Cardmatch, found offer, clicked to Amex, which displayed offer and didn’t ask me to login. Applied and success!

What is better the 100,000 with once a lifetime language OR normal bonus opening and closing with multiple sign up?

Did not get it

SO got the 100K offer. She’s about to drop to 4/24 this Jan, where I was planning on doing CP again… decisions decisions.

Doc – Would it be feasible for someone to share their link so that those who don’t get it can probably use the same link to apply? I don’t know if that link will work for others thou. And it might be risky as well due to that massive frozen and shutdown thing in the past.

I’m also curious about this. I’ve been waiting for a 100k plat offer for a long time.

James
James

I got the 100k offer, and the offer terms did *not* include the once per lifetime language (and I triple checked before applying and getting approved!)

My wife got the 50k offer on the PRG also without once per lifetime language, but with the new anti-gaming language (which mine didn’t have). Also approved instantly.

In both cases had to use private browsing/incognito mode otherwise the Apply link redirected to an account login page.
