Chase Now Matching Increased Signup Bonuses On Personal Cards

Recent reports indicate that Chase is now matching increased signup bonuses on personal cards as well, or at least some personal cards.

A bit of background: Chase has long had an unofficial policy of matching an increased signup bonus if the new offer comes out within 90 days. Then, back with the Sapphire Preferred 80,000 offer, they stopped doing so. Then, yesterday, we reported they ARE matching the $750/75k Chase INK business signup bonuses.

It wasn’t clear if the INK offer matching was unique to that bonus or to business cards. But multiple reports are coming in from the past couple of days (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) that Chase is matching the recent 70,000 United offer which is a personal card.

My best guess is they wanted to stop matching, but changed their mind, and they’ve now reverted back to the old unofficial policy of matching any offer within 90 days. It’s also possible that it’s just an offer-by-offer decision of whether to match or not, and going forward each offer will get its own decision. In any case, it seems to be one answer for everyone who calls/messages, it doesn’t seem to change by which rep you contact.

(I find it interesting that immediately after the Sapphire 80,000 offer ended they began matching again. Maybe they paused the matching program across all cards to avoid matching on that card specifically?)

Opposite experience with matching: signed up for IHG Premier for 75k + statement credit + AF waived and tried to get matched to 140k + statement credit + AF waived. Initially told by SM that I would qualify by meeting the $1k increased spend and replying back by SM. When I did the spend and contacted them again they denied my match request. Also denied by “partner rewards escalations specialist” when I politely complained they bullshitted me when I asked the first time for matching points.

“Maybe they paused the matching program across all cards to avoid matching on that card specifically”
This is my take.

After two unsuccessful attempts, i was finally able to have my ihg bonus increased from 125k to the 140k offer but was unable to have the first annual fee waived. I applied a few days before the 140k offer went public. The previous two attempts occurred before the recent dps of matching success.

I personally think they did this to avoid the csp 80k match. I love chase but this leaves me quite bitter. Go big or go home, dont just chicken out for a few weeks!

I opened the Chase Ink Unlimited BUSINESS card on 9/29/20 with the $500 offer. Sent secure message yesterday asking to be matched for the $750 offer. Chase said yes! Need to reply back to their message once I reach the higher MSR. Thanks DoC!

Wonder if people turned down for the match on CSP can ask again…

Also wondering this. In particular if the spend was already met and bonus was already paid…

Probably trying to minimize the number of 80k+50k CSP/CSR MDDs

I seriously doubt the number of people doing this is more than a rounding error relative to the total number of chase CC customers.
