Our Verdict

The old standard bonus on this card was 35,000, it seems the new regular bonus is 55,000 so this offer really just has the statement credit of $50. I can’t see this bonus getting any higher in the short term, so if you have a need for United miles then this is probably the way to go.

I’m probably going to sign up for this offer for the above mentioned reasons, I’m not crazy desperate for United miles but more never hurts I guess. It’s been possible to get this 55k + $50 offer on and off for awhile now, but this is the first time I’ve seen it available to everybody just by making a dummy booking.

It’s possible to get the sign up bonus on this card again as long as it’s been 24 months since you last received the bonus (more information can be found here). If you’ve applied for this card within the past 90 days with a lower sign up bonus, ask Chase to match it (via secured message or by calling them) and they will.

Hat tip to Physixfan (note foreign language blog, he let me know via e-mail and doesn’t appear to have it listed on his site yet. Update: Now live here. )

If I downgrade my current United Explorer card today (had it for 3.5 yrs), would I be able to get the offer for a new Explorer card if I applied 2-3 weeks from now?

Also, I have quite a few Chase cards, so that’s another potential concern. Do they have a limit on the number of cards? I currently have 9 with them (a lot I know), but two are business cards (Ink Plus and Bold) and might also apply for Ink Cash if the bonus goes up.

Chase is 24 months since getting the bonus, Citi is 18 months from opening or closing the card 😉

I saw the 50000 miles plus $50 statement credit offer after the dummy booking. After clicking the “Apply” icon, they did not mention anything about these on the left upper corner with the picture of the Explorer Card. I also looked for it in the terms and Conditions which didn’t mention about the bonus miles and credit neither. Should I be worried?

Did anyone see the updated terms on the landing page? I’ve never seen this language before.

I have similar offer but need to spend $2000 only rather than $3000. I need to login into my account to see this offer.

Same here. For the past couple months I’ve always been able to see the 50k/$2000 offer after logging in (no flight search required). Now when I log in and search for a flight, I get the 50k/$2000 + $50 credit offer.

seems a pretty nice deal. I have a question,

so I have get this Chase United Mileage Plus Explorer card back in 2012 Nov and received the bonus in 2012 Dec. Then in 2013 Dec I downgrade it to a no annual fee card called “Chase United Mileage Plus” (no “explorer”, so no annual fee, 1 mile per 2 dollar). I still have the card now.

Do you think I am eligible for this new offer? I am worried whether I will be considered as current holder of the product (Although technically it should be different product).

Thanks in advance.
