The Offer
Many people are getting emails from Citi about bonus points for doing spend and adding an authorized user (AU) to their AA or ThankYou Premier cards by June 30.
Here are the various versions of the offers found on Reddit (1, 2). The variations are the same for both the AA cards and the Premier cards.
- Add AU and spend $1k – get 5,000 points
- Add AU and spend $2k – get 5,000 points
- Add AU and spend $1k – get 2500 points
There’s also a separate offer that some got in a recent email from Citi:
- Get 10,000 points after spending $3,000
Presumably, these offers will stack for those who got both.
Our Verdict
All of these bonus points are in addition to the regular points earned on purchases. The first offer ($1k/5k) is an extra 5x per dollar which will amount to 6x total on non-bonused spend and more on bonused spend. The latter two offers are 2.5x per dollar which will amount to 3.5x per dollar total on non-bonused spend. Try getting a retention offer to sweeten the deal even further.
Should be easy enough to add an authorized user and then find a way to meet the $1-2k spend and trigger the bonus. No SSN is required to add an AU with Citi which makes it a bit easier, although you may need a DOB.
