Extra Amex Membership Rewards Points at Many Retailers until Year-End

The Offer

Amex is offering an extra Membership Rewards point per dollar spent at select retailers. The following retailers are showing for some, not everyone will have the same offers, check your login to see which one’s are for you:

The Fine Print

• Check the expiration date – most of these are through 12/31/18, but Best Buy ends on 10/31/18 and Neiman ends 9/30/18.
• Must add offer to Card and use the same Card to redeem.
• Only U.S.-issued American Express® Cards that are enrolled in the Membership Rewards® program at the time of purchase are eligible. Corporate Cards and all prepaid card products are not eligible.
• Limit 1 enrolled Card per American Express Card online account.
• Your enrollment of an eligible American Express Card for this offer extends only to that Card. Your enrollment does not extend to any other Cards that may be linked to your account (such as Additional Cards).

Our Verdict

They ran a similar thing in 2017 where numerous merchants got an extra MR point per dollar spent, and they kept adding more as the year continued. That one had a direct link, let us know if you find one for the current offer. I ended up earning some rewards unintentionally from that 2017 offer when making purchases at those retailers – it’s worth adding these to your cards, especially the major retailers like Best Buy and Lowe’s.

There’s also an offer to get 2 bonus points at select retailers when paying with Amex Checkout. Interesting, there are two overlaps in these lists: Boxed and Neiman Marcus. These retailers will earn 3 bonus points – two from the Amex Checkout deal and one from this Amex Offer – for a total of 4x. If you have the offer on your Blue Business Plus card you’ll end up with 5x MR per dollar. There’s also a separate $20 off $75 Amex Offer deal at Boxed as well (ending soon).
