The Fine Print

  • Valid on in-store purchases only 5/20-2020 – 6/9/2020. While supplies last. No rain checks.

  • The Gift Cards cannot be reloaded with additional funds, nor can they be used at an ATM (Automated Teller Machine). For use in the U.S. only. No cash access. Terms and conditions apply and other fees may apply to Gift Cards. See gift card package for details. The Visa® and Mastercard® Gift Cards are issued by U.S. Bank National Association, pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A. Inc. or Mastercard International Incorporated. Our Verdict

While Kroger coupons/discounts are usually only on the fixed-value cards, there’s nothing limiting this coupon from working on variable-load cards. Activation fee on a $20-$500 variable card is $5.95, and this coupon will take $3 off.

For fixed-value cards, you can load a separate coupon for 4x fuel points between those dates, but that won’t work for variable-load cards. And be sure to use a credit card with a grocery category multiplier.

I found this coupon in my QFC app. Is it safe for me to buy one $500 VGC with my new USBank Alt Rsv card through Samsung Pay (along with some actual groceries of course) to help meet my bonus spend requirement? I’m kind of a lightweight with manufactured spending, especially with USBank.

damn … thanks for the warning. Does that mean even buying one $500 VGC along with some groceries is a bad idea?

Don’t poop and eat in the same room

Yes, you can, but be discreet about how you do it. Have the associate scan your Kroger credit card that is linked to your Kroger account(for the .10 discount), then pay for the MO with VGC and enter the PIN. Don’t ask if it’s OK, just do it and try to keep it out of sight from the associate. They will be busy processing the MO, so if you are quick and quiet about it, it won’t be a problem. If you act all shifty and guilty, you are certain to attract some extra scrutiny, so relax, and get it done quickly. The “Don’t poop and eat in the same room” advice is for newbies who ask a lot of questions and draw eyes on what they are doing. Also, go to the same Kroger often, and get to know the associates. Use their name when you talk to them, and they will get to know you. They will get used to seeing you and won’t question what you are doing. They value your business.
