Our Verdict
This is much better than the standard savings bonus they offer when they are also offering a $300 checking bonus. Doesn’t look like you need to keep the minimum balance for any period of time, just need it in the account as of 3/31/2018. If you live near a branch I think this is worth doing and will add it to our list of the best savings account bonuses.

This offer sucks, considering close to zero interest rate.
One peculiar thing about these guys that they send you the bonus
as a $100 vanilla visa card, not even personalized, just the kind you buy in store.
That is what I got for previous deal.
I am curious if they will put $100 of interest on the tax form
I received a Vanilla Visa for their checking bonus in 2017 and did not get a 1099 from them.
Link is dead?
If this offer is what it says on the terms and conditions then it really sucks. It says:
To be eligible for the savings promotion:
A Silver Savings account, with new money not currently held by Hancock Whitney, must be opened by 07/31/18, with a minimum opening deposit of $20,000 or more. The promo code is required at account opening. The email given at account opening must match the email address submitted to get the offer promo code. Then simply maintain your $20,000 minimum daily balance through 10/25/18. Limit of one new consumer savings-account-related bonus per household per calendar year.
If you meet all of the requirements and your eligible Silver Savings account remains open and active, we will deposit the earned bonus into your Silver Savings account within 6 weeks after the qualification expiration date of 10/25/18.
Your link to the offer only goes to the front page and I could not find this offer looking through.
I did some other looking through Google and found:
https://www.hancockwhitney.com/mydream400q218
But it looks like it needs 20k and it is confusing how long it is needed.
Try this: https://www.hancockwhitney.com/mysavingsq218
Link just takes me to the Whitney home page, not the offer
got an email this morning for the same offer, same terms w/ new expiration date
sign up by 12/31/17 and have a balance on 3/31/18
I looked into opening this Hancock Whitney silver savings account, but it looks like it can’t be opened online at all. I don’t want to have to go in branch. I didn’t have to go in branch for the checking bonus (it was able to be opened online with the promo code), but it looks like all savings accounts can’t be opened online. Has anyone been able to open it online or by phone? Thanks.
Well, I tried to be the data point I wanted and called to open the HWB savings. The CSR was insistent that the $2,500 opening deposit had to come from my HWB checking account, although I told him the terms clearly stated that the opening deposit had to be new money. I even hung up and called back again and got the same guy telling me the same thing. Unfortunately, I need to sit this one out because I’m not going to do something against the terms because some CSR tells me it’s the only way to do it, so I’m done with this bank.
Just ask him to send you an email telling you to do that way to meet the bonus even though it conflicts with the terms and conditions or ask for his manager… why is this so difficult if you already put in enough effort to HUCA…
I have struck out 2 times with Whitney… Trying a third time. Just thought I should mention it. I plan to stop by the branch and see if the manager can “fix” the last failed bonus. I will update if I succeed.
Oh, and I’m not sure if this is the best place for a ChexSystems DP, but here:
I’ve already done Whitney checking bonuses three times (2x personal, 1x business), and there was no hard CS inquiry each time.
Therefore, I believe that it would be unlikely for this savings account to incur a CS inquiry.
Was there an initial inquiry or none at all? TIA
Not sure what you mean by initial inquiry (vs. a regular inquiry? Do you mean like a soft pull, to ascertain whether or not they’re Chex-sensitive?), but all I know is that Hancock/Whitney are not listed anywhere on the CS report that I requested last month, neither under “Inquiries Initiated By Consumer Action” nor under “Inquiries Not Initiated By Consumer Action”.
My three account openings with them were all done within the last 12 months.
I just mean the first account you opened.
Oh, that’s what you meant.
Nope, as I mentioned there’s no sign of them on my report, even though my first account was opened in late July last year.
$100 is on the low end; anyhow if wanting to get $100 gc, need to wait til end of yr when the balance must be min $10K?
It’s not on the low end considering the very easy requirements to earn it.
$10,000 minimum balance to earn a mere $100. I wouldn’t necessarily consider this “very easy” for some people.
M&T… now that’s very easy.
Not really gonna argue a subjective concept of “very easy”, but I would imagine most people would agree that maintaining a $10,000 balance for 1 day, is pretty easy.
