Our Verdict

They have offered this bonus before, worth reading through that old thread for data points and common questions that have likely been asked & answered. It’s important to keep in mind the targeted language, that has never been enforced before but as always YMMV. It’s great that it’s possible to churn this bonus (although you’re limited to one checking & one savings bonus per year). Also keep in mind they currently have a $400 business checking bonus you’ll want to stack this with if possible, fingers crossed that comes back.

The checking bonus is a must do if you live in the target area (sorry not sure if out of state applications will work or not) as there is no direct deposit requirement and it’s incredibly easy to meet the other requirements and keep the account fee free. I don’t think the savings bonus is worth doing as you need to tie up $20,000 in funds for at least three months and the APY is 0.01% (if you put that into a 2% APY account you’d earn almost $100) – you can view high interest accounts here. Because of that the checking bonus will be added and the savings bonus won’t be added to our best bank bonus page. They also specifically state you can do the bonus online now as well which is great, previously it had worked for people but it’s great to see it specifically allowed now.

Bonus has been extended until October 31st, 2018. A word of caution if you’re in TX, the bonus doesn’t really seem to be working for you. If you go in branch reps say the bonus isn’t for Texas and if you apply online they claim the bonus is only for $150 despite the terms. Up to you if you want to risk it or not.

Applied and opened.

Pensacola, FL so can’t comment on out-of-area applications.

Will update when I complete requirements and how long it takes bonus to post.

Thanks Will et al!

Did you open in branch or online?

You can only open in-branch, as far I know.

Online. I know language says take in branch so I’ll take my chances!

Hi Jack! I’m in FWB and also a Packer fan 🙂 I am going today to open this account with the promo code.

Hi everyone. I received my bonus $300 visa in the mail on April 28th.

Pretty quick turnaround.

wait, April 28 ? a month ago ?
the term said 4-6 weeks after qualification deadline 4/30, meaning now should be the earliest

I completed an identical bonus with Whitney recently; same terms. Opened account late November, completed the requirements early December, had to wait a full 10 weeks after the 12/31 end of the promotion to get it, but the $300 gift card arrived. Kept the $250 balance to avoid fees. Good deal if you can get it.

How far away are you from a branch, or did you not open online?

Opened in person. By luck there’s a branch three blocks from my house.

hey chris just wondering what counts for the debit transactions? do amazon reloads (not technically a signature purch & not a PIN purch either, sooo?) is there a min txn amount?

any insights into what you did when you last signed up to complete requirements would be appreciated!

Adam, I opened the account late November and then used the Whitney card they sent me exactly the minimum number of times (5) for point of sale credit purchases (although oddly they show in the online banking as “POS debit” transactions. Smallest purchase I made was a $2 test at gas pump, and the other four were fast food and grocery purchases ranging from $3 to $29. After that I only used the bank card to make a few MO deposits.

Given that people had luck getting the bonus opening online, I decided to give it a try especially since the website validated the promo code from the email.

I’m in CA and I was able to open account online using my parent’s address in TX. Used my CA driver’s license, CA mailing address, and funded with a debit card with a CA billing address…website took it all just fine.

How far away is your parent’s address from an actual branch?

Roughly 30 miles

Can anybody provide an info whether online opening will count or not?

Because the nearest branch is 10 hours…although in the same state…How big is TX…

Somebody mentioned that they got the bonus when opening online:

The question is whether you need to live close to a branch.

If you open the account online, you WILL HAVE TO visit a branch to sign the signature card, etc. They will just shut down the account if you never go to the branch to sign the paperwork.

The location near me is a business center. Can I open account there? I have out of state id is that a problem?

i live 41 miles from an actual branch but they got atms all over orlando. should i apply?

I live in Florida but 100+ miles from a branch. I was able to open online. I’ll update when receive bonus.

Stupid question…I opened an account with HancockWhitney, but when enrolling in online banking it makes me choose between Hancock bank or Whitney bank. Which is it/how do I choose?

Post says the bonus is for Whitney bank, so choose that one.

Well, we’ll see what happens. The application page was Hancock-Whitney (I was approved). But it said I had to come back in 24 hours to enroll in online banking. At that point it gave the option of Hancock OR Whitney. I chose Hancock. So we’ll see what happens.

At the bottom of the online Hancock website was a little note that said, Hancock is what Whitney bank is referred to in FL, MS, AL (and I’m in FL). So maybe I chose the right one by accident…?

Any updates since opening? Any problems or having to “visit a branch”? I have a FL address but out of the country.

Whitney in Louisiana and Texas

Hancock in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Pick Hancock

Anyone having issues opening the account online? When I hit submit, it just gets stuck and says “Please wait” indefinitely

I had this issue using Chrome. Switched to Edge and it went through.

Also had this issue with Chrome, had to switch to Firefox to submit the application, which worked.

is the 1 per household enforced? as i did receive the bonus late last yr & acct is still open (to avoid etf fee), not sure if my wife can get the bonus if doing 1? any DPs will be appreciated

I’m in the same situation as you. Wondering if anyone has tried yet.

Yes enforced.

What is the minimum amount to spend on the debit card?
I didn’t see a minimum spend anywhere.

There’s probably no minimum spend, just like how Wells Fargo’s requirement works/worked. Do some single-item grocery store purchases, or tiny payments towards a utility bill, or tiny Amazon gift card reloads, in slightly-varying amounts (not the same exact amount each time, which can set off red flags).

Austin Auclair

oh yeah? shit i musta set off some major red flags on my regions and wells fargo accounts. lol

What happened with your REgions account

DP: Went in to a branch today and signed up for this as well as the business checking. There was no problem, and they even waived the monthly service fee. Said gift cards should arrive in early May.

DP: Requested a promo code and received by email instantly. Opened up an access checking account and entered the promo code on the first page. We’ll see what happens. I live in AL, but at least an hour away from a branch.

*Opened online

Wells Fargo I was able to get the bonus using Squarecash transactions to a friend and her giving it back to me. Can anyone think of a reason why that wouldn’t work here? Or should I err on the side of caution and do Amazon?

I opened this last year (9/2016) and will be closing it this March since it will be 6 months. Will I still be eligible for this? Not sure if they meant this by calendar year.

online worked

did you get the visa card already?
