Mango Issuing Checks for Some People’s 6% Accounts

Yesterday, Mango sent out an email indicating that all account balances are being zeroed out and reimbursed by way of check. The issues started a couple of weeks ago at which point it appeared they were simply transferring everyone to a new savings account backer. Now they are indicating checks are being sent out.

The weird thing is that some readers report that both the card and savings were zeroed out while others report only the savings getting zeroed out. The email (below) references both.

Does this mean the end of Mango? I’m honestly not sure. The website is still up, along with mention of the 6% savings account. Developing..Seems it’s the people who never transitioned over from Sunrise to Metropolitan who are getting the email. Other’s accounts are fine.

Dear Cardholder,

As previously notified, we are closing your Mango Visa card at Sunrise Banks. If you had a balance remaining on your card or savings account, you will soon receive a check for your remaining balance. This check will be mailed to you at the address-on-record

The check should arrive within 4 weeks.

Please contact us with any questions at MangoSupport@praxell.com or at 1-855-687-2036.

Thank you,
Your Mango Support Team

That letter doesn’t seem to me that they’re closing everything down. I just logged into my account and both my savings and card balance are still there. I did get a notification when I logged in about the end of the sunrise banks account. I wonder if only people who didn’t activate their new debit card are having their account zeroed out?

That was it in my case. They sent me a card that i was not able to activate, their CSRs kept ordering new cards for me, and i did not receive a replacement.
As a DP, they zeroed the savings only.
My plan is to wait a little and open a new account for the 6%

Mr. PTM

Same. Never received the original replacement card and I’ve called twice now to have them to re-send the new card and they’ve never arrived. No confidence inspired, but I’ll probably do the same as you and reopen once I get my check.

It is a letter instead of an email? Haven’t received anything yet. Isn’t the card is now being managed by metropolitan rather than sunrise? Confused here

Chuck,

Why did you write “Everyone’s” without any proof that it’s the case? Like Peter, I just checked my account and it is fine.

It even mentions “Sunrise” in the letter you posted. It is pretty likely that people that were still using the Sunrise card were the ones that had their accounts closed.

William Charles

It’s not really possible to check with everybody to see if their account has been shut down. If we see multiple DP confirming the same thing with no counter DP it’s reasonable to conclude it’s affecting everybody. Chuck updated the post as soon as he realized this wasn’t the case.

I activated the debit card not long ago. They said something about the savings account not being activated, even though the debit card was active. They don’t seem to know much over there.

Did you have a prior savings account with a debit card or are you talking about a whole new account?
If it’s a new account, you don’t get a savings account automatically. You create (activate) the savings account by requesting a transfer of $10 or more from the spending account to savings.

I’ve had the savings account for 2 years

Also I still have 800 on the card to use. They only debited savings.

They warn you quite a bit via txt message and email to activate your new debit card before the due date.

I found that I haven’t received the interest of this month before they cleared my balance. Is it possible for me to get back the interest?

Mike

That question should be directed to Mango. My balance and interest showed up correctly.

Double check your statements if you kept them or can pull them up.
My March statement included $24.85 interest paid on 3/31 and is included in the “Ending balance on March 31, 2018”. Nothing surprising here, just a beginning DP.
The “Beginning balance” on my April statement is $24.05 more than the ending balance on my March statement and there is no interest listed on the April statement.
This transition has been far from smooth, but I’m guessing that the interest for April isn’t listed on the statement, but looks to be ‘hidden’ in the beginning balance for April. No clue why it would be done that way, but the math works. $24.85 interest for 31 days in March (~0.80/day), should be close to $24.00 for the 30 days of April.

I mean the interest of May

May’s interest should be paid sometime in the beginning of June. Assuming you’ve backed up all your monthly statements or text messages you should be able to manually count up your account totals to ensure nothing is missing and also determine if you had any interest posted. See my message above. I got Aprils interest despite the new bank not listing it on the transaction log.

Same here, they credited me $24.xx also but never stated what they credited me without having me to manually revisit my old text messages. Looks like all the NEW statements have been reset when they moved the account over. I used my saved text messages as a source to verify and calculate the difference. Looks like the new bank took care of us despite the lack of telling us of the interest posted. Let’s hope and they forget to report the interest to the IRS for 2018 😉 hehehehe

TITLE IS MISLEADING due to omitted FACTS!!! I called them and spoke to a rep and got the whole story. The only accounts closed were those that never activated their NEW debit cards! Anyone that got their newly issued debit cards a few weeks back from Metropolitan Commercial Bank is unaffected.

Just so you know, when you put things in ALL CAPS and have a ton of exclamation points at the end of your sentence you look like an idiot!!!

DoC was reporting something quickly, not everyone can be 100% accurate on everything. He goes with the DPs he has and more often than not is correct. If he finds out he isn’t correct he quickly realizes and corrects the mistakes. There’s multiple DPs of people activating their cards and still getting shut down. By the way, reps are very reliable or uneducated. We usually know more about their products than they do.

People are posting to try to ensure correct info if put out. Stop acting like a control freak and insulting contributors that are helping others rather than scolding them because you feel they are shouting for the wrong reasons.

I never received the replacement cards and they zeroed out my savings yesterday and checkings today. The representative said they are mailing me checks…

I activated the new Met MasterCard Mango when it came. On May 1, my savings was zeroed and subsequently showed back up in a savings account linked to the spend card. Since then, I have ACHed funds to the spending account (same account and routing numbers used with Sunrise) and used the card for purchases with no problems. I did have to reset my password around May 2 to regain online access.
I’m guessing the account closures are due to non-activation of the new cards. Months ago, Mango announced that this would happen if new cards didn’t get activated.
If you’re getting closed out and wish to keep a Mango account, I’d just re-apply for a new account once the old one is closed.

Another DP for someone unaffected. Spending and savings account are both fine.

I had activated my replacement card as soon as I received it. It looks like there’s now a pop-up/overlaid note before log-in at the moment to remind users to activate their new cards

Data Point – I have already activated my card in first week of May 2018 and my savings account was still zeored out yesterday

Same for me.

I got the e-mail and they zeroed out my account. They never sent me a replacement card and despite several phone calls over the past 2 months, I never could get it resolved. I’m kind of glad that I’m getting a check so I don’t have to deal with it anymore.
