The Fine Print

  • Minimum $1,000 deposit required; must be opened with 50% new funds not on deposit with Keesler Federal.
  • Offer valid for Consumer, Business, and IRA Certificates only.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Early withdrawal fees do apply.

Our Verdict

Obviously a great deal, it isn’t clear if you can sign up for the CD online (update: It’s an option during the sign up process). The downside is obviously that this is only a 7 month CD and it’s unlikely they will renew it. Still if you want to dump a lot of money into a CD then this is a great option. We will be adding this to the best high interest CDs.

Dang, going to miss this if it closes on 8/21. Wouldn’t let me transfer more than $50 by ACH when I was trying to open a JUMBO CD. Then the security questions were ridiculous, who remembers what their car payment was in 1992. Twenty five years, i can just barely remember yesterday. With this probably gone in a few days, probably won’t see this rate again for another year…..too bad.

“who remembers what their car payment was in 1992”

LOL, that is a bad one. They really ought to limit these questions to data from within a 7-year period. I don’t know if this was from LexisNexis or who’s the credit agency that also does the identity question junk, Experian?, but you should be able to request a copy of the stuff they use to generate these questions about you; might be good to have on hand.

I was told it will be a hard pull by new accounts rep.

Sweet! Too bad it’s so short. 7 months at 5% will get you $29 per $1000 put into it.

More important updates from DA comments at https://www.depositaccounts.com/banks/keesler-cu/offers/ :

One per household, not per person.

The out-of-state account opening process requires getting a form notarized.

They plan to end this offer at the end of the day on Tuesday Aug 21, 2018.

They are a member of the shared branching credit union system, but to get the money into your account in time now since they put holds on shared branch deposits, you will have to do a wire transfer with fees.

“Also, they told me that I had to send the paper docs by fax or email in order to get an acct # in time as well as mailing the hard copy.”

When the 7 months ends, it will automatically roll over to a 6mo CD at then-standard rates unless you tell them not to.

From kprr7 on DA:

” They use Experian for the Authentication Questions on Application
They use Equifax for the Credit Check
NOTE: For those with Credit Freeze, the CSR told me to ‘unfreeze’ at both places in order to get through the application process. “

Wow, hopefully more widely available offers will start showing up as rates continue to rise.
