[Expired] Office Depot/Max: Buy $300 in Mastercard Giftcards & Save $15 Instantly

The Offer

No direct link, check your local store to find this offer

  • Office Depot/Max are offering a $15 instant discount when you buy $300 in Mastercard gift cards this week.

The Fine Print

  • Limit one (1) offer per household/business.
  • Discount applied at register.
  • Offer valid 9/20 – 9/26
  • Offer valid in store on Mastercard Gift Cards only.

Our Verdict

Lately we’ve seen a lot of spend $100, get $10 back deals. This time they have brought back this original promotion where you need to spend $300+ but get $15 back. Fees are on a $200 card ($6.95) and $100 card ($5.95). Make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on office supply store purchases.

The closest OfficeMax by me is closing. Luckily the $15 off $300 is still working. They have a banner outside of the store. Everything is marked 10%-30% off. I have been going there for every gift card promotion since 2012 and a few of the same people still work there. The next closest store is 40 miles away, so I won’t be driving there often. There are not any local news articles about it yet. It’s a sad day.

When they say 1 offer per household, is that 1 for the whole sale, or just daily?

I.e. if I bought $400 today, can I go back tomorrow and get the same deal? Or would I need a separate ODOM account?

Road Dog You can rinse and repeat, no ODOM account required.

YMMV as always. I usually do the rounds twice a day, once in the morning after taking my kid to school and once in the evening after work. Some stores will let me ring up multiple transactions in one visit. Just try it and see how your local store handles it.

Word of caution when stacking with Dosh: I just noticed that AmEx cards are excluded from the 2% CB (Visa/MC only). Not sure when this happened, but my SCB is my usual go-to for these offers (don’t hold any Ink variants).

Got cashback using my Amex card today. I’ve had some issues with Amex tracking on Dosh in the past, but not this time.

Jim Nice. Maybe just regional then? None of the ODOM stores in Denver include AmEx on the Dosh offer and it didn’t track yesterday when using my SCB.

Since you make money on this even before CC rewards, you could actually just use cash here. MS for people with no credit lol

I think you forgot the sarcasm font.

Either that or you’re talking about potentially making $1.10.. assuming you use the cards for general spend and not money orders.

I haven’t been out and about in a while- is this really how dire things have become?

Has anybody ever been charged tax on gift cards at office depot? I bought an amazon GC and some candy the other day and was charged tax on the whole thing. Pretty sure it’s never happened before on VGCs…

Happens to me at Safeway when I buy $50 Visa or MC gift cards in Washington, DC. Definitely wrong. (Weirdly doesn’t happen when I buy $100 ones.)

Two $200 cards are a better deal. You pay an extra $1 in fees, but get an extra $5 in credit card cash back (assuming 5% office supply category card).
