The Offer
- First Federal Bank is offering a bonus of up to $150 when you open a new checking account in branch at select OH locations. To get the bonus you need to do the following:
- Make 10 debit card purchases of at least $15 each
- Make 3 bill payments of at least $15 each

- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
The best account to open is the simple checking as it has no monthly fee as long as you’ve completed a bill pay in the last 90 days otherwise a $5.95 fee is charged. There is also a $3 paper statement fee, so make sure you opt out of those.
Early Account Termination Fee
The early account termination fee is $25 if closed within 180 days according to this fee schedule.
Our Verdict
Previous deal was the same but also open to MI & IN as well. I suspect there are similar deals for those states as well, I just don’t know what the links are. They did offer another similar bonus in 2016 that didn’t require going in branch but given that was so long ago I would recommend just going for this one instead if you live near a branch. Because of that I’ll be adding it to the best checking bonuses.
