Why feeling bad for airlines? They will ask for money to the government and they probably will get it, so if you see this realistically we’re losing our pointsand miles, because our taxes will get them out of trouble and they will devaluate again if they need to, at the end of the day we are screwed either way.

“After a glistening customer service experience in the airport in which we demand both security and convenience, we want numerous flights to anywhere both domestic and international, aboard modern shiny new aircraft with spacious seating and plenty of room for as many bags as we can carry all for $99 each way.”

I don’t think the airlines are by any means the victim here but the consumer demands are getting a little ridiculous. On another site, someone told me that she would prefer to have the option to pay a little extra to get a seat with more room. When I asked if she had ever flown first class, she said she didn’t want to pay *that much* extra. It’s just mind blowing to see what people think they deserve, what they settle for and how they interpret the differences between the two.

There is a “slight” difference between first class and and economy ticket with enough space for a tall person. (Also see Spirit Big Front Seat.)

AA returned my miles and refunded my fees even though they didn’t have to. United not only refused to refund my fees, they told me I had until mid-April to use my miles or lose them. I couldn’t care less if United went down the drain. Some airlines deserve what they get. SW has always been consumer oriented and I hope they get through this okay.

Can’t read the NYT article because it’s behind a paywall. Does anybody think things will get better if we have fewer airlines and therefore less competition?

Let the airlines go under, Government takeover all of them, combine and we will finally have a flag carrier once again.

Any bailouts should have major strings attached to ensure better treatment of passengers and guests. They treat us like shit in boom times, then ask for bailouts in recessions. They get all the upside and the taxpayer eats the downside.

Always like those videos you link to. I’m still hooked on the primitive technology stuff.

But I Feel Sorry for my airline miles, which would be lost if the airline shuts down

After AA’s purge and ban of churners, I’m hoping that AA goes under. My million+ points went down the drain anyways.

One could say much of that was your own undoing.

I couldn’t agree more with the “Don’t feel bad for the airlines”, they didn’t feel bad for us when reducing space between seats, increasing baggage fees and basically treating us like beggers instead of customers just to maximize their profits…

I agree with that for most airlines. But what about southwest? They consistently seem to try to do the right thing. Even if they do what’s right to retain their customers, who cares, they at least treat us reasonably.

in that case, if we don’t feel bad for the airlines, those bad ones will be flushed out and the good ones will stay.

The Republicans all tout free market.
Let the free market kill the bad ones and leave the good airlines.
There shouldn’t be reward for bad behavior.

Sadly, the ones who have been mismanaged (and have mistreated customers) will get bailed out.

SouthWest and Alaska will be punished for being prudent: https://seekingalpha.com/article/4332709-southwest-airlines-and-alaska-air-built-to-survive-coronavirus

Yeah, SW and Alaska are great companies.

Unfortunately I learned recently southwest was one of the airlines engaging in massive stock buybacks. I expected better from them, hope they can weather the storm but they really shouldn’t have done that.

I feel bad for the workers. Shitty management not putting away money for a rainy day. Now, they’re paying the price, management is going to be a-ok.

Management with their multi-million dollar bonuses will be more than A-OK.
They get the bonuses even when they mess up.
The workers who have no say deal with the mess.

i would agree too. Only US airlines are charging fee on bags, and now they are trying to charged us higher, even worse, if you want to chose a seat, u gonna pay. I wounder if this trend continue, they will charge us for carry on, drink, and restroom!. God, I hope they go out of business or government take over.

It’s because all the non-US airlines have been getting government handouts annually. And several of them still need additional bailouts as well.
