  • $15 off when you buy two $100 in Visa gift cards.
  • $10 off when you buy two $50 in Visa gift cards.

  • Valid through February 22, 2020

Our Verdict

Remember to save the offer first to your card before use. You won’t get fuel points on Visa/MC gift cards. Make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases. This version of the offer does not work on the variable cards.

Deal is back for Mastercard version, expires 4/11. $15 off 2 x $100, $10 off 2 x $50. These coupons do not typically work on variables, just fixed.

Discover 5% at grocery stores thru 3/31, Chase Freedom starts 4/1

Bob

These deals usually run for two weeks, but you have to add them in your Just For U account during the first week.

Didn’t work for 2 x 100 Fuel everywhere. Usually, it is the best deal because Fuel everywhere only costs $3.95.

I find it ironic that no one has mentioned the whopping activation fees on these cards. Two $100 cards will total $11.90 in fees (offset by the $15 off leaves you at $3.10 profit/cashback); two $50 cards will total $13.90 in fees (offset by the $10 off leave you at $3.90 in cost, zero profit until the 5% CB CC is factored in). Net CB using your 5% rotational grocery category card would be: two $50 cards is effectively 6.55%; 1.10% for two $50 cards. Add 5% to your savings if you’re a first-year DiscoverIt account holder.

However, if your only strategy is to meet minimum spend to receive bonus rewards, then it is a little more valuable.

Note: Calculations were based on Vanilla Visa activation fees. I find that most of these fees outside of WalMart/WalMart Neighborhood Market and Sam’s Club (all a dollar less) are pretty standard.

The fee for a regular $50 card is $4.95 and the fee is only $9.90 for 2.

I use these for Amex Min Spends and annual spend bonus. Amex doesn’t scrutinize safeway like they do Staples.

That said, has anyone had success in buying 2x $50 VGC with their 2x $100 VGC on the same transaction and got both discounts to apply at the register?

Yes. You can do the $50×2 and $100×2 at the same time.

Did you really end up buying 2x $500 vgc without promo? I told them upfront that I will only buy if promo worked, which of course didn’t, so I instead ended up buying 2x $100 VGC.

Hmm, a lot of hassle to deal with these $100 cards, but I also still need to hit my $1500 limit for 5% on Discover for Q1.

Risk waiting for the variable offer or do it now?

P.S.: Also, as others have mentioned, DoC’s statement “This version of the offer does work on the variable cards.” is sadly incorrect…

Why not just buy 3 $500 Visa gc and forget about this “deal”?

Eric , short answer would be math: profit vs. effort!

$1500 via $500 cards: 505.95 x 3 = $1517.85

$1500 via $100 cards promo: $100 x 15 = 1476,75
(since each 2 cards will cost $196.90)

Profit: 1517.85 – 1476.75 = $41.10
(+ $75 from 5% Discover either way 🙂 )

Btw, I can – comfortably – offload up to 6 cards at my nearest Walmart per trip (got 3 reloadable pre-paids and use Money-Center and Cust.-Service separately).

But you would need 8 safeway accounts (and phone numbers?) to buy $1500 of $100 GCs, right? I only have 5 ppl in my family so I only have 5 safeway accounts.

b Try signing up with some random made-up details online and you might be surprised… 😉

There must be a lot of people that do that, I wasn’t able to sign up under my home phone number of nearly 30 years because someone else did. The casualty of random made up details apparently 🙂 Luck of the draw I guess.

Then again, I tend to combine my home and cell numbers when giving out a number and don’t want to get calls… turns out that is someone’s number. Oops. Karma bit 🙂

LOL. I think it had something to do with when all these grocery stores combined under one rewards program. I admit I used to use my phone numbers with different area codes to generate accounts over the years. I ended up using a GV number. Sh*t happens 🙂

Is office max still doing deals on gift cards? Haven’t seen an announcement recently.

At Jewel at least on the Just4U they’re also offering this:

Celebrate Valentine’s Day!
When you purchase any TWO participating gift cards.* Limit 1 per household.
Coupon
One time use
Expires: 02/14/20
OfferDetail: *Participating Gift Cards: GameStop®, Macy’s, Spafinder®, Staples, Happy Dining, and Happy Bride. Limit 1 per household. Club Card required.

To clarify that, it’s save $5 when you buy two (you forgot to include how much you save :)).

Unless you can buy less than $25/ea, the $5 off coupon for each $50 spent on gift cards at Mejier is a better way to go and a better selection of choices.

Happy Bride (which work at Ulta, Macy’s and BBBY) can be bought for a minimum of $20.

So $5 off $40 works out to 12.5% discount. Not bad if you need to make purchases at any of those stores (ofcourse stack with coupons and portals)
