Our Verdict

Not as good as the recent 40,000 point offer. If you have any questions about upgrade offers, please read this post before asking any questionsGeneral American Express questions are likely answered here. You should be able to get the bonus points from this offer even if you’ve held the Gold card before, so might be worth considering from that perspective as you’d normally not be able to get a sign up bonus like this again.

William Charles Isn’t this because the green is getting all those new benefits?

AmEx is wisely (from a business perspective) trying to get people to pay a higher annual fee on Gold since Amazon prime on the new green will cost them a ton

Got the offer by email……Not sure if it is worth doing for less than $350 cashback (35K MR points equivalent in GC) with $250 annual fee that is not waived first year.

I have the “Go Gold” upgrade also BUT it doesn’t have any language about 35k points. It has every other benefit though. Anyone else receive this?

then you are not targeted for 35k points

or do the Casper $1,500 offer for 30K – less spend, no AF, and you can sell the brand new mattress if you don’t need it, I’m sure.

I see the offer under amex offers. it says “Experience the gold standard” and there is a button to click that says “Go Gold”. then on the pre-approved application it says “Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card or the Premier Rewards Gold Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.”

thinking maybe im getting a general offer and not the targeted one. but its still an upgrade offer for 35k after 2k spend, just it definitely has the exclusion language. anyways seems like my offer would not qualify for the upgrade bonus if had the product before…

Have the same stuff but not sure if its an upgrade offer/new application as the landing page shows Apply now instead of Upgrade.

I am showing this too

apparently its just an offer to apply. misleading cause it does say upgrade. instead of apply now, and upgrade offer will say upgrade when you go to apply

I just got an upgrade offer to the Platinum Card from my Gold one. 5K spend in 3 months for 60,000MR. My Gold annual fee just posted (first annual fee after first year free as I opened the card before it changed)

How did you receive the offer? The offer shows up in your online banking or provided by online/phone chat/retention?

Mine has the wording “Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card or the Premier Rewards Gold Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.”

It doesn’t seem like an upgrade offer, it looks more like a straight up new application. This is showing up as GO GOLD in the offers section of my Green Card.

That’s what I saw others saying, too. This is not showing up as an upgrade but rather a pre-approval with lifetime language.

Same here – and I do get the pop up that I’m not eligible for the bonus before submitting.

I have both green and gold. The green has the upgrade offer but when I try to use it it says “your card” and doesn’t let me upgrade. Oh well!

drop the gold card from your online account and make add gold card to new online account. then you will be able to upgrade your green card

The problem is that this upgrade offer comes with the lifetime language…or at least mine does. I didn’t bother doing it.
