Our Verdict

In the past purchasing a Marriott gift card at the front desk has worked as well if you don’t have any upcoming stays.

I have a stay between April 1-3. Will prepaid rates be eligible?

Had $300+ spend at a Vacation club property in Orlando in early Feb, I was hoping it would trigger this offer, so far no dice. I called Amex and played dumb asking if they could look into it but only got the standard it could take up to 90 days response, she was just reading the terms back to me. The terms do state not eligible on vacation club properties, I was hoping it was coded so that it would trigger, it appears not.

I did get an offer for adding P2 as an additional user for 10k points after only $1k spend in 6 months, so I got something out of the call at least. This is for the Bonvoy Brilliant card.

When they say wait 90 days I always reply with “Well the eligible charge already posted and I never got an email saying I used the offer. I also see the offer under ‘added to card’ rather than ‘redeemed’ on americanexpress.com. Can you look into this please?”

Marriott AmEx offer is very accurate on type of hotel. They would not mess up with the code. Sometimes they will have 2 Marriott offer at once but for different hotels types. So one hotel will not trigger both offer.

Watch your statements because I almost got screwed on this one. Stayed at a Courtyard and it posted to my account with a misspelled merchant name “COURTYRAD BY MARRIOT” so the credit did not automatically apply. Had to call Amex 3 times to get it fixed and one of the agents I spoke with insisted that the property I stayed at was not eligible but could not tell me why. Eventually it did get escalated to someone in corporate who gave me the credit but still annoying nonetheless.

Did this offer get pulled for anyone else? I don’t see it in my saved offers anymore…. all I see in available offers is a $200 off $1000 at a Marriott Homes & Villas property…. dang it I was going to be able to use it too!

I have had this happen before. Keep all Amex Offers emails as they are your only proof you added it as the emails show what’s been added.

Any DP on if purchasing a Marriott gift card online triggers this?

Josh
