How Did Your US Bank Altitude Application Go?

Lots of us are applying now for the Altitude card. There are three different replies the system is giving:

  1. Approval (yay!)
  2. Denial “Thank you for your interest in the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite® Card. At this time we are unable to approve your application based on the information you have provided. You will receive additional information on your application request via U.S. Mail in 7-10 business days. Or, you may call 800-654-0648 for more information.”
  3. Pending “We are unable to provide a decision at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. You will be notified of a decision by U.S. Mail in 7 to 10 business days.” It then goes on to give an option to get an email notification as well.

Approval

A few things to note:

  • A lot of people are getting high credit limits in the $20k-$40k range, but we’ve also seen reported approvals under $10k. It’ll have to be at least $5k like all Visa Infinite cards.
  • There have been those who were approved with their ARS and Sagestream reports frozen or unfrozen so that doesn’t seem to be making a difference so far.
  • So far, it’s been mostly Transunion pulls, with a couple reports of Experian mixed in. See also Which Credit Bureau does US Bank Pull?

Denial

All reports of Denial that I’ve seen so far are due to the fact that US Bank didn’t recognize them as existing customers, despite them being US Bank credit cardholders who are eligible to apply.

I’m haven’t yet seen someone denied due to credit reasons. They are probably only denying applications manually for now.

This denial response is not resulting in a hard pull, which makes sense being that they simply don’t recognize you as being able to apply.

If you got this response, most people are having success calling the number shown (800-654-0648) and getting them to put in the application for processing. Processing will then take a few days until you get a verdict.

Note: Not everyone who only has a card relationship is getting this reply. It’s not clear why some people’s card relationship’s are being recognized and other’s are not.

Many have noted that it’s possible to apply for the Altitude card from within your US Bank login. I haven’t seen any indication that this helps cross the hurdle of US Bank recognizing you as an existing customer, so probably no reason to bother doing this, but it certainly can’t hurt.

Pending

The pending reply means that they’ll be manually reviewing. It’s not necessarily a bad sign, but there’s certainly a chance of denial.

We haven’t yet heard of many manual approvals; they are making most of us wait a few days as they go through the applications and decide. My application went pending, and the recon rep declined to process the application instantly, stating that I’d have to wait a few days for the manual decision.

Those who got the Pending message are seeing a hard pull already now (mostly Transunion, as noted above).

The US Bank status check and reconsideration numbers are: 800-947-1444 or 800-685-7680. They are open 8am – 8 pm Monday to Friday, 9 am – 6 pm Saturday, closed Sunday. You can call any time for an automated phone status check (option 1 then option 1). Not worth calling in until they render a decision, but in case of denial try reconsideration.

Approved for 21k.

Applied at lunch today in branch. Existing checking with no US Bank cards. Over 5/24 with TU at 1 pull before applying. My last card was in December.

They pulled TU and the banker called me a few hours later with an approval for 21k. He said this was because the back office has to review my signature and info.

Something that was interesting was the interest rate sheet the banker gave me. It didn’t have a range but instead was set at 16.49%.

why does 5/24 matter for US Bank???

I don’t know my exact count of cards at the moment. Just that I am over 5/24. Overall I’m happy I applied since I only had 1 pull in TU (now 2).

right, but US Bank doesn’t have any 5/24 rule as far as i know.

I was manually approved today.

Applied late last night. Called the 1-800-654-0648 number this morning and a rep pulled up my case and after verifying my current and past address told me I was approved for $14k.

They pulled Transunion for me (I’m in CA). I’m wondering if I can move some of my CL from my flexperks gold to it. I plan to hit Samsung Pay hard

Haven’t been following too closely, just double checking: confirmed we need s US Bank relationship? Best path to open checking acct, 35 days later apply? No branches nearby.

William Charles

Yes, confirmed. You can get it within that 35 period by applying in branch. Read this post for more: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/whats-best-way-become-eligible-u-s-bank-altitude/

Pending last night. Called in this noon and was told that I’m approved. By the automated system though, so I don’t know how much credit line I have.

i initially got the “we are unable to approve your application….. reply 7-10 days in mail” response.
so i called recon line and the CSR told me that it was a glitch that i got that message. she said they will be reviewing my app and get back to me in 1 to 2 business days.
and then, i got an email from credit wise that there is a change to my report. a TU hard-pull was done. i’m guessing they pulled my credit to do a review after the phone call.
fingers crossed.

Applied online. 20/24 new accounts on TU and six inquiries, which was the CU pulled, 10+ year old checking account (legacy student account, $500 MO deposit every other month or so for the past year), two ~10 year old CCs with US Bank for 15k total CL. 160k income and ~300k available credit, 780 TU from creditkarma and Cap1.

Pending on app. Called the number. Said my app was denied and would be getting a letter in 7-10 days.

From other DPs I’ve read, seems the 20/24 was probably the problem.

I called recon this morning and they said they will put my report manually for review. Still haven’t seen any HP on credit karma for TU and EQ. Maybe they pull EX?

No checking account, but already have 3 USB cc’s, the oldest for over a decade.

instant approved. TU 725 (from CK, 8th pull in 2 years). USB customer since sept ’16 (flexperks+checking). ARS frozen, sagestream not frozen (verification issues 2x, stopped trying).

Major lack of USB DPs on bank funding. Anyone fund PNC?

Got denied message. Called in and was told it was for “out of geographical region.” They put me back in queue as I have the Club Carlson Visa. Says taking 1 to 2 days for decision at this time. Hard pull showed up on my Equifax report (TransUnion would have been much better for me). I am in Virginia if it matters for credit bureau data point.

TomTX

Identical here, though with REI visa. Equifax pull a few hours after I called in.

Jamie

Denied due to too many new accounts. Rep said no way for decision to be reconsidered. Suggested applying again in 6 months when accounts “won’t be new anymore,” so appears they look back six months. I have had 4 new accounts in past 6 months (all opened January 28th).

I got the same info. apply again in 6 months.
