Our Verdict
Always nice to see bonuses with no direct deposit requirement or monthly fees, the downside is that you need to make 30 debit card transactions. For ideas on how to easily hit that requirement, read this post. As it is a soft pull we will add it to the list of best bank bonuses.

I signed up online but must have typo’d my drivers license number because it went to pending. When rep called, that was the only thing she needed; however, it sounded like they did a hard pull. The rep didn’t specifically say those words, but after I had given my verbal approval to open the account, she said “And since we check your credit when opening the account, would you like to hear what credit cards we offer?” It pissed me off so much I forgot to confirm it was indeed a hard pull. It only went through yesterday so it’s not shown up on any credit report sites yet, so I can’t be 100%, but if/when it does show up, I’ll edit post to include which bureau they pulled.
I wasn’t planning on getting any new cards right now, but it would have been nice to have it confirmed beyond “open the account”.
It wasn’t a hard pull, it was a soft pull. My accounts been open for 2-3 weeks and no pulls have shown up.
Ran into a unique requirement for this one – If you’re not local to a branch, they will make you fill out an ‘Affidavit and Sworn Statement of Identity’, get it notarized, and snail-mail it in. Still not over the ‘not worth it’ threshold for $150 for me, but wanted to share that it could be a non-zero expense in terms of time and the cost of notary services and postage.
I had to do this too. Added a quick stop at a local bank (free notary services) and one stamp to the requirements to get this bonus.
Will Amazon refills work? Do banks ever care if they see these?
I plan to fulfill this using Amazon refills. I did 10 today, and I will do two more sets of 10 over the next week or so and report back on the results.
Did it work? I am thinking of signing up as well, but won’t if the Amazon trick doesn’t do it for this account…
I did the Amazon reloads last week, but no bonus yet. The terms say the account must be open and in good standing for 90 days and that the bonus will be deposited within four months of account opening. Time will tell I guess.
Bonus post?
Nothing yet
Any luck?
Still not yet.
It will be 90 days from account opening in late May, so with the requirement of good standing for 90 days, I would expect the bonus some time between late May and late June.
Anybody else get the bonus yet?
Bonus posted 5/21/19 after opening 2/20/19, debit card transactions completed 3/8/19.
I applied for a My Checking account on 2/6 and was instantly approved, although approval page did not show a member or account number. Today I missed a call from a “Member Outreach Advocate” who said she was “reaching out” about my application but didn’t offer any details. I tried calling back but reached her voicemail, so still not sure what info she needs from me.
Interesting to note that the CSR could tell the phone number I provided on my application is a Google Voice number and wanted to know my “actual phone number.”
mine went pending.
FWIW Salal is the rare “bank” that willing to offer banking services to Cannabis businesses. They also fiance a large amount of “green” biz (solar and renewable). This is this the extent of my green business experience with Salal.
