Well there’s just a few days left and I’m going for it! There’s a branch near me, but instead I’m using the online link in hopes that the code gets attached to the application.

My online application was “conditionally approved” so I printed the signature card to mail in, along with my check to fund the account. (I figured mailing a check might be faster than funding from an external account, because the instructions said they can’t start an external transfer until they get the signature card anyway.) I’m hopeful that by applying today 12/18 and mailing my paperwork tomorrow 12/19, the account will meet the “open by 12/22” requirement.

Contrary to the write-up above, I don’t think depositing $500 is required (this is not mentioned in the offer’s fine print); apparently you just have to grow the account to $500 within 60 days. I’m going to fund with just $100 to meet the minimum balance requirement, then I’ll put more in during the next month or so.

(DanGer, thanks for the tip about the secret word!)

Update: After Fulton received my signature card and opening check, the banker called me to ask if I had gotten an email or mailer about the offer, since the offer was supposed to be targeted to existing customers. He said politely that because I wasn’t an existing customer and could not show that the offer was sent to me, I would not be eligible for the offer. I said if there was no bonus then I didn’t want to open an account at this time. Oh well.

Just some tips I learned from opening this over the summer that you all may not need if smarter or more attentive than me.

If you apply online, WRITE DOWN YOUR SECRET WORD. It is required to access online banking. I don’t even remember creating it. Any word brought to mind by the hint did not work. You get one chance per day to guess and if you are wrong, you have to call in to a special department to get your account reset so you can guess again the next day.

Every representative that I have spoken with has been really pleasant and did their best to be helpful, but the policies and my own lack of attention to detail has left me locked out of online banking for the account I opened in July.

This is all moot if you have a physical branch to visit! There is not a branch near me but still received the bonus (good DP) using true direct deposit (not so helpful DP).

I used my mailed statements to verify my balance, that I received my bonus, and to pull the funds using credit card bill pay. Old school banking!

Just came back from a Fulton branch in Pennsylvania. No advertising of this in branch and when I talked to the folks there I was told they did not have a savings promotion for the general public. I was also told they might have one if I received a specific mailer sent to me. Oh well. I did not open an account.

I am a little leary about biting on this, because I had issues getting them to cough up the $150 for the checking this summer. These are the grey area offers that people sign up for, then flood the bank with calls when they don’t get paid.

I might swing into the branch, because the link very clearly says targeted.

I wasn’t targeted via email, but decided to open an account anyway. I’ll need to mail in a signature card before they can process my opening deposit. I’m not hopeful I’ll receive the bonus, but this website has me so addicted to bank bonuses and I need my next fix! This will be my 43rd bonus-chasing account opened this year (2 player mode), and I’m at 60+ if you include Insight, CDs, etc. Eek!

They’ve informed me that my email isn’t on the list of people they sent the offer to, so they want me to forward them the email if I want to receive the bonus. Safe to say this offer is actually targeted and I didn’t receive the bonus because I wasn’t targeted.

Update: I just received a call from Fulton Bank just letting me know that my account has been approved and that the next step is for me to send them the signature card so they can officially open the account and process my initial deposit. I asked the banker to confirm that the promotion I saw on the website ($100 bonus for having $500 in the account after 60 days) was linked to my account, and he said he sees that I received the promotion email (I didn’t) and he’ll have to check with his supervisor to make sure it’s linked to my account and get back to me. Unsure if this means they don’t actually know who they’re sending the emails to, but I have much more hope now.

Finally received my account number in the mail which allowed me to enroll in their online banking, an arcane method that requires I re-enter most of the info from my original application, including drivers license # and SS #. I had to double and triple check to make sure I was at the right website because of all the personal info I had to enter.

Also, the letter in the mail included a separate page with the terms of the $100 bonus on it. It’s the same text as the “Fine Print” Will posted above (including that it “applies to intended recipients of our Savings Promotion”), but I’m guessing that because it’s printed out on its own page and included I’ll probably receive the bonus. Still, even if I do, this bonus will not have been worth my time given how long it took to open, the phone call, the signature card I had to mail in and the laborious online banking enrollment.
