American Express Business Gold 75,000 Points Signup Bonus When Using Referral Link

The Offer

No direct link available, offer available via referrals only. Find a referral by clicking here

American Express is offering the following bonus on the new Business Gold card when applying via a referral link:

  • Earn 50,000 points when you spend $5,000 on eligible purchases with the American Express Business Gold Card within the first 3 months of Card Membership.
  • Earn an additional 25,000 points after you spend an extra $5,000 on eligible purchases on the Card within that same time period.

Offer valid through February 5, 2020.

Card Details

  • $295 annual fee, not waived first year
  • Card earns 4x points on the two categories your business spends the most each billing cycle, from the following list (up to $150,000 in combined purchases each calendar year):
    • U.S. purchases at restaurants
    • Airfare purchased directly from airlines
    • U.S. purchases for advertising in select media
    • U.S. purchases at gas stations
    • U.S. purchases for shipping
    • U.S. computer hardware, software, and cloud computing purchases made directly from select providers
  • 25% points back after you book a flight with pay with points

Our Verdict

When they revamped the card, they put out a signup bonus of 1 year free of G Suite basic for 3 users and up to 1 year of ZipRecruiter Standard, then they changed the public offer to $500 FedEx credit, now the public offer is 35k/$5k.

At some point in middle, the card became available via referral with a 50,000 Membership Rewards points bonus with $5,000 in spend. Now, they’ve added an additional 25,000 points when you do an additional $5,000 in spend for a total 75k bonus. Another major advantage of the referral offer is that the referrer (your friend) will also get a nice bonus of up to 20,000 points, depending which card they refer from.

Overall, this is a terrific offer which could even make sense just for the purpose of the bonus without keeping long term.  If you have any questions about American Express, read this post first.

Is this considered different or same product as old Amex Gold Buss with $175 fees?

onewomanarmy

I still have the old card, just paid the AF of $175 (and pondering dropping the card, missing the value atm), and it looks like I have the referral for the new card. So, still paying old fee, but referral for the newer version. Not sure that answers your question…

Could you tell me why you kept it? I am debating to keep or cancel

Part of the reason I’ve still got it is because I keep forgetting to look up the policy if you cancel after paying the AF. 😀 I’m also hoping a couple of referrals will come through and don’t want to risk losing those. In reality, we don’t use this card enough to hang on to given the AF. The high gas points just isn’t enough for us, maybe we’re missing something. Much happier with the non-biz Gold card.

I have the old card. I applied for the new card a while ago but was not eligible for bonus because I already had the old card.

GradCashGrab

I called and they specifically told me And emailed me saying that the new gold biz is a different product based on the POID so you’d qualify. Haven’t personally jumped on yet.

If I had this card in the past, will I get the bonus again?

No, this is not a No Lifetime Language offer

Bill

How far back matters? I had it in 2013 and cancelled in 2014. Doesn’t the card falloff “lifetime”‘ status after 7 years or so?

It may work. You can try and see if you get the pop up

I cancelled this card in 2014 and reapplied 11/2018 (stupidly thought the alleged 7 years kicks in from the time you got the card/bonus, not from time of cancellation). I didn’t get the popup and didn’t get the bonus.

The key is to chat up amex, ask if you have had the card in the past. After 7 years from when you close the card is falls out of their system and they will answer “no”, but if less than 7 years they will see it in the history and answer “yes”. I asked about an old cad and initially they said yes. I asked a year later (after 7 year mark) and they no longer had a record of me having the card and i received the sign up bonus.

I’m curious. Did you remove it from your online account management at a certain point? I like keeping the cancelled card as record.

How do Amex referrals work? Can anyone with any personal amex card refer me to this? or do they need to have any business amex to refer me?

Which card is offering a 20K bonus for referrals?

TW

Highest I have is 15k for my Amex Bus Plat referral link.

Dailybread
Dailybread

Business Gold is offering 25K bonus for referrals.

TW
TW

That’s insanely good, though it caps at 55k so you’d only be able to refer 2 people at full value.

Dailybread
Dailybread

That’s correct. The previous amount was 20k, capped at 55k, which you needed to refer 3 people to get the full value but losing 5k in the process. With this you can have the 3rd referral on a different card (biz plat, plat, or BBP) and get 65k total in referral.

are there no AF cards to downgrade to that will keep points alive? trying to make points worth the $300 AF.

Dave
Dave

No good downgrade option, but you can open a Blue Business Plus to keep your points alive, then close this card.

One more fact: they increased referral bonus from 20K to 25K on my old BRG

Referring someone in the same household is still OK for Amex?

joe

This may be a dumb question, but on the referral page I only see “referral offer” for the other cards, the BG only says “limited time offer”. Will the referrer still get a bonus?

AP

Is 75k MR an all-time high offer for this card, albeit with a higher MSR? Seems worth grabbing in the near future, but others can chime in.

With life time language of Amex, this seems an extra good offer for those who have never held Gold Biz to jump in.

Sweet, I can just self-refer myself and double dip … 😉
